Editorial Reviews:

Book Description
A navy fighter pilot is assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Manila where he participates in the operation of an advanced technology aircraft against the Soviet Union. Members of an elite security agency guarding the project befriend him. Through their friendship, he becomes involved in actions against international criminals and terrorists. Those worldwide activities are endangered by betrayals at the highest political levels. Brown Bear's personal experiences as a Navy fighter pilot anchor this exciting and dramatic, yet sensitive, story; which offers an alternative view of events unfolding during the latter years of the "Cold War."

This book is by far and away the best book I've ever had the pleasure to read! In fact Bravo is just as good and believe that Charlie will be even better. This book should be top seller on any book list!!! I'm very prould to have had the honor to meet the legendary Brown Bear!

I met Brown Bear at a book signing at Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, WA. A super guy who can swap sea stories with the best of them. I pictured him as I read "Alpha" and his second book, "Bravo." Some parts are difficult to swallow but he weaves a pretty nice tale (I saw an interesting thing or two during twenty-six years on nuclear submarines) and is light years ahead of Clancy when it comes to honest-to-God military information. It's hard to believe a real life hero like Dick Williams exists until you spend some talking to Captain Schaffert. I hope he doesn't keep us waiting long for "Charlie."

5 out of 5 stars Brown Bear - A Must Read...   March 2, 2000

Loyalty, Betrayal and other Contact Sports(Alpha) by Erzse Publications. Author Brown Bear - Captain Richard SchaffertUSN Rt.DFC(**)

I have just finished reading the above book and want to give it a five star recommendation. The book is a fast moving tale of adventure in the Orient with a sizzling aviation overtone. It is written by a distinguished and highly decorated USN fighter pilot who clearly knows his aircraft stuff and his way around the Orient.

Great yarn which I thoroughly recommend - and a Must Buy.

5 out of 5 stars Got Me!   February 20, 2000

A very good friend of mine sent me this book, even though I told him I wasn't much of a reader. Quite often I buy a book and don't read it or don't even start it. My closet at home has several books I couldn't finish. But since Loyalty et al was from a friend, I took the book on my next four day trip to Hong Kong. When I arrived there I was beat so I immediately went to bed and decided to read a few pages before I fell asleep. I put it down two hours later and finished the whole book before I got home. This was a record for me. I liked it so much I bought 30 books and sent them to my friends for Christmas. Buy it, Read it, then thank me for telling you.
