Editorial Reviews:

Book Description
In the rugged hills and hollows of what is now southern Missouri, northern Arkansas, and western Kentucky, mountain bikers will encounter haunting vestiges of former human habitation in the deep woods. With so much to discover, it pays to have the inside scoop on mountain biking in the Ozarks. This book will introduce you to the thrill of exploring this south central wilderness while you experience its most unforgettable rides.

Newly revised and expanded, Mountain Bike! The Ozarks provides detailed information on more than 90 of the best rides throughout the Ozarks, including tours through Mark Twain National Forest, Ozark National Forest, and Ouachita National Forest. From technical single-track to wide gravel roads along meandering streams, if it's good riding, it's profiled here.

Each route profile features at-a-glance information, a thorough ride description, a detailed trail map, helpful sources of information, proximity of important services, valuable commentary on elevation changes and possible hazards, and a rescue index.

Mountain Bike! The Ozarks also features interesting and entertaining photographs, vivid descriptions of native flora and fauna, a glossary of mountain biking terms, tips on mountain biking etiquette, fascinating historical facts and regional anecdotes, and a list of ride recommendations for special interests.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing   April 12, 2004

If you yearn to discover more gorgeous single track in the Ozarks, you'll find this book falls a bit short. Riding on fire roads, to me, just isn't mountain biking.

As much as I love Mr. Henry's book, "The Best of Tent Camping, The Ozarks," I was very disappointed in this book on mountain biking. Many of the trails that are recommended here are merely gravel roads that a lover of single track won't enjoy. Mr. Henry is great at directing a lover of the outdoors to great camping and hiking, but, unfortunately, when it comes to why most of us ride, he just doesn't get it.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book on Cycling in the Ozarks!   September 16, 1998

If you think there are no really good places to cycle in the Midwest, this book will change your mind. Very detailed...everything you need to know, how to get there, how to find the trails, what to expect, etc.
