Product Description Category: Making Friends"What we have here is a bad case of stripes. One of the worst I've ever seen!"Camilla Cream loves lima beans, but she never eats them. Why? Because the other kids in her school don't like them. And Camilla Cream is very, very worried about what other people think of her. In fact, she's so worried that she's about to break out in...a bad case of stripes!"Shannon's story is a good poke in the eye of conformity...and his empathetic, vivid artwork keeps perfect pace with the tale."-Kirkus Reviews, starred review

My three kids' favorite book July 1, 2008 I can't recommend this book highly enough. My first grader discovered it, and it immediately became the favorite of all three of them (ages 7, 5 and 3). The illustrations are striking, and the message (just be yourself and don't worry about what other people think!) is an important one for kids.
Wonderful Message June 16, 2008 My 4.5 year old daughter found this book at the library. We checked it out and it has become one of her favorites. The illustrations are vivid and unusual. My daughter was not at all bothered by them, in fact she found them funny and interesting. Some have said that the illustrations were scary, but that was not the case for my child. She also loves Pinkalicious (the main character turns pink after eating too many pink cupcakes) so that may have helped. The message to always be true to your self is a great one, and it's a fun book to read. We plan to purchase our own copy after it goes back to the library.
Shannon's most freakish classic. May 18, 2008 This is David Shannon at his very best, this story that has probably traumatized more than one elementary student due to the rather surreal pictures. Then again, that is part of the intense charm of this book about being true to ones' self. It's a powerful message that literally comes to the surface when a young girl's skin reflects pretty much what everyone else wants it to. The book is creative with a great leading lady and some amazing illustrations.
Love it!!! May 2, 2008 My 4 y.o. daughter loves this book. We read it every night and now she is learning to read it all by herself. It's a very good story..
Good message, but not a book for younger children April 24, 2008 My 4-year old daughter had this book read to her at preschool and has been having nightmares about it. She was even afraid to tell me what her nightmares were about and would only say it was something they read at school. I think the message in the book is an important one, but the drawings are too creepy and disturbing for many of the younger kids.
