Editorial Reviews:

Book Description
Complete with a targeted review of all the material on the selected Praxis exam in addition to a full-length practice test, these test preparation guides are written by the makers of the real tests. Thorough explanations of the answers are provided and helpful test-taking strategies are found throughout the guide. The three categories of assessments covered correspond to the three milestones in teacher development-academic skills assessment, subject assessment, and classroom performance assessment. Reflecting the rigorous and carefully validated nature of the exams, these guides provide beginning teachers the information needed to succeed.

1 out of 5 stars Don't waste you rmoney   July 27, 2008
I bought this to study for the Praxis 0014. This was of no help. I took the test today and there was a lot that was not even covered in the book. I'm sure there are better study guides out there. Unluckily I chose this one.

4 out of 5 stars Passed on 1st try!!   July 21, 2008
This book is a good guide of what to study. But you definitely need other study materials. This book is only an outline. I have been out of college for 7 years and was beyond worried. But I passed on the first try.

4 out of 5 stars Covers everything you could possibly need to know   April 17, 2008

I passed the test after using this book as my study guide.

This book, I should add, does not teach you the information on the exam, it only gives you an outline of topics you might see on the test. It took me about 2 weeks to thoroughly go through all the topics, and all I basically did was look them up on the internet. I wish I would have read the other review here that recommends the "All your ___th grader needs to know" series. I assume that would have been A LOT easier than having to go through and look everything up. I would definitely recommend making sure to go through everything, especially if you've been out of school for a while.

On my version of the exam, the English and Math portions were very straight forward. The English did not have as much method questions as I expected it to have from the study guide. Science and Social Studies were somewhat killer because the range of knowledge they expect you to know is massive. All I can suggest for that is to study as best you can for those subjects, and then just trust that you're a good guesser, unless you have a wealth of knowledge in those areas.

On a side note, in my stressing about the test and whether I passed or not, I found a good post that calculated out getting 2/3 of the questions right (80/120), would send you well on your way to passing the exam. I think I probably did end up getting somewhere between 30-40 questions wrong with the Social Studies and Science portions, so from my guessing, the 2/3 rule will have you well over passing....at least in my state where the minimum score is 143, and I managed a 182.

5 out of 5 stars Helped me pass the Praxis 2 test for Elementary Education!   March 26, 2008
This book was everything I needed to study for and pass the Praxis 2 test. I highly recommend doing the full length practice test at the back of this book before you take the exam. When you take the practice test, time yourself and pace yourself so you practice following the time limit. Remember, for this test you have 1 minute per question. So happy testing and using this guide will help you pass...it did for me!

This product was not helpful as a review for the Praxis II. It listed topics but no review whatsoever. I had to buy another book to review the history, math, science, and language arts. The only useful part of this book was the practice test. Would not recommend!
