Fashionable and Good for the Environment June 2, 2008 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
Green is the New Black: How to Change the World with Style, by Tamsin Blanchard is a terrific book!
Blanchard discusses all aspects of green, sustainable clothing, as well as fair trade fashion. There are plenty of resources for ethical designers and businesses.
Blanchard understands we are not going to stop making clothing purchases, but does believe that we should buy less of it and better quality clothing.
She suggests ways to recycle clothing. And writes about "swishing" parties, where you trade clothes with your friends.
I love the section on DIY style--Blanchard believes we should wear what makes us feel comfortable and individual and suggests cool projects to easily make ourselves.
I also recommend Harmonious Environment: Beautify, Detoxify and Energize Your Life, Your Home and Your Planet, as it shows how to make your home, food and personal care products eco-friendly and healthy and Big Green Purse: Use Your Spending Power to Create a Cleaner, Greener World to make all your spending eco-friendly and fairtrade.
