Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
To get an EMT-Paramedic certification, candidates must not only complete a rigorous course of study, but also take and pass the EMT-Paramedic certification exam. This book offers the most current test prep for the exam sponsored by the National Registry of EMTs. In addition to the four practice exams and the official Practical Skills Exam of the National Registry of EMTs, this edition also includes a list of professional EMT associations and organizations, educational and training resources, and certification requirements for each state.

2 out of 5 stars Only mildly useful   December 13, 2007
This book does help you prepare for the exam in the sense that it provides you with questions that are worded in the same quirky "pick the BEST answer" kind of way that the National Registry exam is worded. You quickly learn how to pace yourself and read and re-read the questions completely and carefully.

That being said, however, I found this book to not be very useful at all. I have two major complaints: 1. There are NUMEROUS incorrect answers and misprints in this version of the book. In the last exam alone, I counted three before I was halfway done. For example, it one answer, it gives the incorrect pediatric dosage of naloxone; and in another answer, it stated that the treatment of an unstable VT with pulses is defibrillation (it's not, it's cardioversion at 100J). So, I found myself wondering if I was studying and memorizing unrealiable material for the exam. 2. The National Registry exam had many more difficult questions, and I feel that the questions presented in this book will only adequately prepare you for an exam of medium-level difficulty. It does not contain any EKG strips, drip rates or algorithms, which are in abundance on the National Registry exam.

I'm not sure which books are better for preparing you for the NREMT exam, but if I were you, I'd look at others before purchasing this one.

2 out of 5 stars Incomplete   July 19, 2007

This book contains some general advice on test preparation, as well as some insight into how the NREMT exam is administered. It also contains four 180 question practice exams which is supposedly "based on the latest National Registry Exam". I bought the book for the practice exams.

I took two of the exams. The questions that ARE included are pretty well written and the explanations in the answer key are also fairly good. The only complaint I have with what IS included is that there are quite a lot of spelling errors (especially in the second exam/key), and one of the answers is misprinted (on the second exam). Not too bad thus far.

My main complaint is what is NOT included. Not a single ECG strip appears in the entire book! Scenarios are mostly straightforward, yet the NREMT exam I took today had a few scenarios that were a lot trickier. At least in the first two exams, there was not one question about drip rates or dosage calculations. For the most part, pharmacology questions seem to be lacking.

While the book isn't completely worthless, I can only assume the high ratings have been made by those who used this as their only study source. It is far from complete, and I would not recommend it unless you're just collecting a bank of practice questions and need an additional source.

4 out of 5 stars Paramedic Exam   June 26, 2007
This review got me in the right study mode for my final exam.
This is how you need to study for the national final.

5 out of 5 stars Best Test Simulation available   January 9, 2007

There are many paramedic prep books out there, and this one is by far the best for real test type questions and format. Having just taken the National Registry Exam, I can say that this book most accurately mirrors the actual test. The explanations are thorough and accurate (with only a couple exceptions). This text is also one of the only on the market with the new ACLS protocols and drugs, i.e. Amiodarone. Be warned: this book is for the student ready to test and looking to identify weak spots or pre-think some of the trick questions. This is not a book for those looking to shore up a weak area. If that is what you need, then start with the "EMT-P Self Assessment" by Cherry because it is topic specific. But be sure to use this one before the test.

4 out of 5 stars Good stuff   July 7, 2006

Just took the written and some of the questions were almost copied I swear. It is very similar but doesn't prompt you to think like a Basic. The test requires you to utilize that aspect where as this guide is looking for that extra level of training we all endured. Good practice over-all. Pick up the Barrons one as well and you should be set. Skip the Brady review maual, useless junk.
