Product Description
The Ultimate Golf Trivia Book is interactive in that each of the eighteen chapters is assigned a par of three, four, or five. Readers can keep score and earn eagles, birdies, pars, bogeys, and double bogeys dependent on the number of correct answers he or she provides for that chapter. Par for this book's course is 72. Golf-savvy readers will love trying to break 80. Scattered throughout the book are interesting sidebars such as top-ten lists, strange-but-true stories, and more than thirty photographs.

This is a fun and terrific book with a journalistic edge! April 2, 1999 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I happen to know the author who showed me a galley of his book, which is coming out in May, he said. The book features a simple format with something like 1,100 Q&As divided among 18 category-chapters that include "The Majors," "The LPGA," "Augusta," "Guys and Gals," "The Seventies," "Hogan, Nelson, and Snead," "Spanning the Globe," "Golf Media and Pop Culture," "Ryder Cup," and "Golf Rules, Equipment and Controversies." Readers can keep score with each hole(chapter) being a par 3, 4, or 5, and scores issued depending on how many Qs in each chapter are answered correctly. There's also a lot of great photos I had never seen before, to include "Old" and "Young" Tom Morris, Harry Vardon, Ely Callaway, Althea Gibson, Arnold Palmer, Bobby Jones with a camera, Tiger Woods, Mickey Wright, Walter Hagen, Jan Stephenson, and Laura Baugh. There's even one shot of a young Nancy Lopez about 20 years ago swinging for the fences and wearing a white miniskirt--she really does have nice legs. There are also nifty sidebars, strange-but-trues and a variety of top-ten lists. All in all, it's a terrific book because the author provides hundreds of interesting Q&As that aren't your run-of-the-mill cliche questions, although a lot of your favorite Q&As are included. It's just hard enough to be a challenge, yet "easy" enough so as not to alienate golf fans less than expert. Unlike the several other golf trivia books in existence written by people I've never heard of (and I do read a ton of golf publications and books), this one is actually authored by a veteran golf journalist who has written extensively, covering golf for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, The National, Golf World, and Golf Illustrated. There's a lot of funny stuff in here as well as revelatory material. I believe Towle was getting David Feherty to write his foreword, and I know that CBS's Jim Nantz and noted golf author Curt Sampson have back-cover endorsement blurbs. Also, the cover has been significantly revised from what's pictured here on Amazon--it's a lot cooler now. Anyway, this is everything a golf trivia book should be and I love it!
