Far Better Reading than Volume One! January 14, 2004 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
"Slipping the Surly Bonds: Great Quotations on Flight" , the first book, tidily recorded the phrases we've heard and liked, along with who uttered them. This new volume not so much a reference for familiar quotes, but a far more entertaining collection to sit down and read. Many passages are a bit longer, supplying depth and context to make it enjoyable. Here is the opportunity to get to know the writing of many of the pioneering authors of flight, in a way that illuminates their giftedness. I'm looking forward to Volume 3, hoping for more from Gill Robb Wilson, Lane E. Wallace, and some glider talk from the great Gren Seibels. (If this volume had the same physical dimension as the first book, I'd have rated it for the 5th star. These are excellent books that deserve to be displayed in a slipcase.)
