Product Description This 94-minute documentary details the historical events that have given rise to an Arab-dominated governments willingness to kill and displace its own indigenous African people while examining the international communitys ?legacy of failure? to respond to such profound crimes against humanity both now and in the past. Offered exclusive and unparalleled access to the situation on the ground inside Darfur Peabody Award-winning filmmaker Paul Freedman joins a contingent of African Union peacekeeping forces in Darfur while a tragic and disturbing chapter in human history unfolds. As we see while the heroic men and women of this undermanned under-funded mission brave harsh conditions and unfettered violence as many as 2.5 million displaced persons have no choice but to settle inside squalid camps in Darfur and neighboring Chad to wait and hope for a resolution that may be years away.Running Time: 94 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/HBO UPC: 883929007554 Manufacturer No: 1000036690

Get informed about Darfur, genocide April 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a good first study of Darfur for those who've read about it but haven't really understood it very well. Nicholas Kristof, NY Times reporter who was one of the first to break the story, is interviewed extensively and well. A Harvard prof. whose name escapes me is also a credible, articulate source of historical and current information. Footage of Darfur refugees and their stories is indeed haunting, as is interview footage with Elie Wiesel. Includes a somewhat inspiring call to action -- and coverage of Barack Obama's and Sam Brownback's responses. George Clooney narrates (and executive produced). Definitely worth seeing.

I watched this last night on HBO. Very well done but one of the most haunting documentaries I've ever watched.
