This book is an excellent self-learning German book - really ideal for a grad student studying for a modern language proficiency!
 Gets the job done July 10, 2008
An concise, no-nonsense introduction to written German. The reading exercises really help build confidence with the grammar. It has you reading real sentences even after the first chapter, and builds in well-reasoned increments from there. The teaching of vocabulary could be more streamlined, however.
