The Perfect Devotional for a High School athlete October 31, 2000

Ok. This review may be a bit bias; however, being the author's son, I have seen first hand how Team Huddles impact the lives of high school athletes. I know when I was in high school, I always wished I had some spiritual resource that I could use to directly apply to competition. Mike takes the dynamics of the christian faith and directly applies them to the playing field with specific action points. Through the use of numerous football stories and bloopers, Mike is able to captivate the reader's attention through each devotional in addition to helping the athlete better understand the principles presented within each chapter. I have been apart of different teams where Mike has presented these Team Huddles. Every time a new talk was presented, some guys would always approach me and tell me about how much they loved the talk. There is honestly something about the stories that Mike uses that seems to grab the attention of even the most unattentive athlete. I recommend this book for two reasons:(1) christian athletes can use these devotionals to directly impact their performance by applying spiritual principles to the game and to life, (2)these Team Huddles can be used by youth leaders and pastors in order to directly impact the lives of high school student athletes by presenting spiritual principles in a non-threatening, intriguing manner. This sports devotional will stretch the athlete beyond the field of play.

In "Team Huddles" Mike Parrott goes out of his way to provide the reader with great practical tools for anyone trying to minister to an athletic team (especially, but not just limited to, football). Students today realy want to hear stories and this book is loaded with them. In my own ministry I see this book as a resource being opened frequently for many years to come. If you desire to have spiritual input to an athletic team, this book needs to be in your library.
