Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Two couples vacationing in Alabama are pursued by a maniac killer. They flee deep into the woods and take refuge in an old house that has been vacated for years, or so they think. They soon discover that they are not alone and that the killer has purposely lured them to this house. It seems that the killer and the house are somehow working in concert. They try to leave, but the house wont let them.

After receiving a message in which the killer claims to have killed God and now demands more dead bodies, the couples come to understand that the seeming malevolence of the house mirrors the evil within their own hearts and souls, and that they can only defeat the evil in the house by defeating the evil within themselves.

4 out of 5 stars Almost great. Almost ruined by the preaching.   November 9, 2008
0 out of 1 found this review helpful

A very entertaining and imaginative horror novel with some great twists in the story and some good suspense. By about 300 pages in though, the novel becomes overtly Christian and starts to preach, a lot.

Without the cringe iducing final 50 or so pages I would have given this 5 stars. It gets 4 because it was excellent up until then.

1 out of 5 stars Didn't really care which one of four would be terminated in the book   November 3, 2008
I have read several books from both authors. Because of this my expectations are high. Dekker is normally a master of plot twists and clearly presenting good vs.evil. Dekker sometimes struggles with full character development. The plot twists were lost on me because the character development was so poor. I was hoping that the serial killer would win in this book so that the whining of multiple characters would end and the book would end. I didn't appreciate a single character.

Jack and Stephanie are husband and wife and no reason for either of them to be hero's in this book. Because they lost a child, we as readers are supposed to see them as potential heros??? Jack spends most of the book looking at the other woman. Stephanie should have stayed locked in the closet in this book. Randy is not staged correctly to poise him as a tool for evil later on in the book.

The person that seems to be the most repentant for their own situation, dies first. So much for redemption.

Actually liked the evil tin man for a while until he started pouting and throwing a tantrum in one of the closing chapters. I would say more, yet would give away too much of the book.

Go read these authors' other books!(Thr3e, Adam, Visitation, A child called Blessed, A man called blessed, obsessed, blink, showdown)

There is some hope for the movie coming out because the visuals could be interesting. Debating if I am going to see the movie.

1 out of 5 stars House - audiobook version review   October 14, 2008
For me, House was strange, repetitive, and disappointing. The same scenes seem to happen over and over, and the action is difficult to follow. The narrator did a good job, but there were a few editing mistakes. I didn't finish the story - and don't need to find out how it ends. Try some other works by these authors - they can both write a great book, but this work does not reflect their talent.

3 out of 5 stars Intriguing   October 14, 2008
This was a page turner. They did a good job with the description, some parts are really creepy.
The ending, however, wasn't too good.

1 out of 5 stars Extremely Dissapointed   October 9, 2008
I like to find Christian authors for enlightenment combined with entertainment. I have not read any of Ted Dekker other books; however, I have read almost all of Peretti and was disappointed from this book to the point where I would actually write a review. Finished the book like a bad movie just to get it over with.
