Dreamy & Beautiful Tarot! October 6, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love this tarot deck--it is inspiring and beautifully done. I own many tarot decks and this is one of my favorites. To give you an idea of my taste, I really love the work of Kris Waldherr (Goddess Tarot) and Karen Mahoney (Tarot of Prague, Victorian Romantic Tarot, etc). I really like the Queens in this deck, especially the Queen of Cups. Also, the Temperance card is lovely, and very evocative. There aren't really that many decks that you want to use regularly, that really speak to you, but for me this is one of the decks I USE and don't just enjoy for the art work or the gimmick. That said, I DO think the artwork is exceptional, and touches the subconcious with it's poetic moons and landscapes. I recommend this deck, especially for women. There is something sensual in the images, and I think you will enjoy the journey and discoveries that it will help you to explore.
A delightful deck October 3, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I must like this deck I bought 4 sets, 2 for me & 2 for gifts I can't say more than that about it - I'd not buy so many decks if there was any part of it that didn't delight me Love the gentle side but with that gentle side comes a tougher side of the cards but none that I find revolting Great book
Pretty, feminine cards September 19, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This deck has been on my wish list since I first began seeing the images over on DeviantArt. They captivated me from the beginning. It is a photo collage deck that has so far read very well for me. The characters are overwhelmingly feminine, though some they seem to be a bit confused about whether they are citizens of a surreal, slightly fantastical world, or exotic dancers. Strength, in particular, reminds me of a stripper, with her low cut gold lame dress and platform heels. Some of the facial expressions seem to be a bit awkward, like the Queen of Wands, whose crown seems placed as an afterthought. Even so, the colors are lovely, and as I have worked with the cards I have found it very easy to imagine myself in the dream world the artist was trying to evoke. The moon, wolves, and ravens play heavily into her personal symbolism of the deck. I am absolutely crazy about The Devil, The Hermit, and The Chariot.
The cards basically follow RWS meanings, and the book, called The Dreamer's Journal, by Barbara Moore, who also wrote the books that accompany the highly rated Gilded Tarot and The Mystic Faerie Tarot, is a pleasure to read. She includes many spreads, and breaks with her own tradition of not including reversed meanings for the cards. This set also include a black organdy bag to hold the cards, which I always find a nice touch because then I do not have to go out finding a piece of cloth or spending more money on a bag, but that is personal preference. The cards shuffle nicely, and are a nice medium size, neither large nor small.
My biggest complaint is that I wish the borders were smaller. The artwork is very detailed but it is hard to see that with the large-ish borders that are intended to look like The images are on parchment paper. I am not sure that a lot of men would love this deck, as it does seem to have a decidedly feminine flair (and comes in a pink box, not that men cannot like pink) and I would consider the deck more slightly surreal in feeling than truly dark. If I had the chance to see the cards in person first I would have still gotten them, at some point, but they would not have been as high a priority.
Nice, moderately dark deck August 24, 2008 15 out of 18 found this review helpful
You can see pictures of the cards on a number of tarot deck websites, so I won't spend a lot of time on them here. If you're an art deck collector, this is probably already on your LustList. If not, you want to know how it *reads*.
First, there's no nudity in this deck, which to many readers who read at public fairs, is a huge relief. (The Lovers are semi-nude, but tastefully photoshopped). It's a darkish deck--moons appear in every card--but the overall tone is not particularly shadowy or bleak to me, as many 'darker' decks are. The symbolism is strongly reliant on RWS, so owners of other 'standard' decks can probably jump right in with readings. Some differences exist--the Hanged Man, for example, has both legs straight instead of the standard 'figure four', the Devil doesn't have a scary guy with horns--but all in all your RWS deck skills will transfer pretty seamlessly. Many symbols repeat throughout the deck, like waterfalls and ravens, that are not standard, but do lead to fascinating connections in a more intuitive-style reading.
The deck is heavily female--in case the big PINK box it comes in doesn't give that away. It features women more than men in the cards themselves--the swords suit, for example, is almost entirely female. The book it comes with is nice--not the LWB, but a paperback glossy covered affair. The explanations for each card are solid, and not very 'out there' or far from standard interpretations. The real treasure of the book comes in the 'use your intuition' questions for each card.
This is my first photo-collage deck, and I like it a lot more than I'd expected. I'd hoped it would be a bit more androgynous in appeal and pictures. But I can't fault a deck that gives good, solid readings and pushes a reader or a tarot-meditator to further their intuitive skills.
