Product Description
The book is a compilation of letters, essays, meditations and poems submitted to The athletes, coaches and a lengthy letter to the school Librarian and psychologist spanning a sixteen year period at Anchor Bay High School. The centralmost theme running throughout the compositions is discipline and magnanimity, the latter especially when experiencing a team loss. While the necessity for embracing a positive attitude couched in the need for looking at all experiences from a spiritual perspective is peppered throughout the pages, the esoteric teachings of Gurdjieff and P.D. Ouspensky, also known as Esoteric Christianity, are also heavily alluded to in the compositions, some quite lengthy. For example, the idea of self remembering, self observation, the three separate brains/centres, intentional suffering and conscious laboring, and also body kesdjan (the vehicle used to transport one's soul to other worlds) are explored explicitly in the Letter to the Librarians. These same ideas are otherwise briefly intimated throughout the compositions; sometimes even suggested through metaphor. In the Three Forms of Sexual Attraction chapter, I explore the possibility, plausibility even, of transmuting bodily passion into a spiritual passion, wherein one can develop a body kesdjan (something like an astral body),and thus be availed the vehicle to experience non-bodily intercourse with another like and kind person. This captivating composition is a lengthy dialogue sure to arouse interest in those with a proclivity toward the esoteric nature of psycho-spiritual sexuality. The case for viginity is made loud and clear throughout the dialogue. In the last chapter, Why Death (The case for Self Denial), I discuss, using dialogue, the necessity for practicing self discipline, as in intentional suffering, to reduce the necessity for cosmological disasters (wars, earthquakes) and the like. This is an unusual dialogue, and to some, maybe even scary, once the reader recognizes the unequivocal necessity for embracing a disciplined, self-remembered life. The dialogue is supported in part by scientific concepts, e.g. neutrinos, and how they fuel our body with enormous power, a power similar to the sun. In my thirty-seven question questionnaire loaded with complex, intriging, situational moral/ethical dilemmas, I asked one high school senior to provide responses to a minimum of twelve questions. Her responses will prove illuminating to parents of teens and to the teens themselves. I provide an insighful essay on Ralph Waldo Emerson that I wrote for one of my Harvard University classes; the essay connects Emerson to the Hermetic Tradition and to his belief in the necessity for experiencing an out of body experience to obtain spiritual enlightenment. The essay boasts the latest research on Emerson.

5 out of 5 stars A Book For All Eternity   January 2, 2007

Mahatma Gandhi said, "Our life is a long and arduous quest after truth." This book is a multidimensional expose` of that quest. Ronne Gleason in a masterful and brilliant way applies play by play action from high school sports as spiritual metaphors to emphasize the necessity for embracing the inner spiritual life.

Drawing from a broad range of ancient wisdom with vivid, colorful imagery, the author turns the senses inward. It is here in the inner spiritual realm of the soul with the tools of The Work Gurdjieff & Ouspensky teachings (Esoteric Christianity) he guides us on a journey that brings us to the questionnaire. The questionnaire helps reveal ourselves to ourselves and when earnestly answered gives us the means whereby we can begin to see ourselves at deeper psychological and spiritual levels. After answering the questionnaire myself, I know much better now what Jesus meant when he said to take the log out of your own eye first, before you take the speck out of your brothers eye.

In total, no spiritual seeker or sport enthusiast should miss the profound made practicable through the personal letters, essays and poems of this book. There are so many levels of understanding presented in it, that each time you re-read a chapter a deeper understanding is revealed. The author's gifted perception of natural disasters, wars, death and why they happen is profoundly enlightening. After reading the chapter Why Death? (The Case for Self Denial), I feel a strong responsibility for my actions. I know much better now what the Apostle Paul meant when he said, "Walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wisemen."

Reading this book is a journey that has an ongoing life changing experience with each chapter read. It has changed my life by making me more aware of the consequences of my own actions. Each consequence vibrates throughout the whole universe and contributes to make it what it is. It has energized my spirit to work even more diligently on myself to awaken out of this mechanical vertical sleep called consciousness into the higher state of self-remembering.

Can the discipline of sport be an essential condition to the long and arduous quest after truth? Once you have read this powerful and compelling book, you will never perceive sports in the same way again.

This book with its' vast array of metaphors that coordinate athletics with the spiritual journey is genuinely unique and perfect for classroom discussions in high school and especially college. A magnificent masterful tapestry of essays, personal letters, and poems inspired from real play by play sport events at Anchor Bay High School, addressed to the school psychologist, librarian, coaches and especially those exceptional athletic students who made it all possible, to help them along the arduous path of life in the quest for truth. It is full of every good thing, and will most assuredly inspire and benefit everyone who reads it. I have found the book to be a friend indeed. It is a book for all eternity !

Moments at Anchor Bay High (Souls On Fire).

Don't be fooled by the title of this deeply profound and spiritual book. A sporting theme is only the stage set for this mystical masterpiece. An enlightened perspective by an insightful Master who corresponds through letters and essays to exceptional student athletes with the aim of assisting in their soul's development. Ronne Gleason inspires us to 'work', (to go higher in oneself), to be our better self. His words of empathy, intuition and wisom help to ignite the inner desire to consciously 'work' to awaken and reminds us that we are all "Perpetual creations... Masterpieces in the making."

"Moments at Anchor Bay High" is a God inspired treasure. I loved this book and there is certainly a lot to it. If you only had one book to read and reread this would be a most excellent choice. (The author even brings us up to date on Emerson along with his mystical background... As a result I now desire to read the 'Classics.') This book is truly thought provoking and will bend your mind better than any drugs. It includes a transforming life questionnaire, that if pondered will take you beyond who you currently are... and you will be more than you were before. Loved it!!!

Whether you are a high school athlete, a parent, or just enjoy watching sports, you know that high school sports are packed full of passion and unbridled hope that no other level of play seems to possess. Watching these spirited individuals is not only entertaining but also creates a sense of nostalgia mixed with renewed hope for the future.

The author of Moments at Anchor Bay High is a huge fan of high school sports. Over the years, he has dug deeper within both the game and himself to seek a spiritual nature to these events. He regularly draws from the passion of a particularly well played game or a play off match to find his inspiration for his writing. These are often written, without sleep to interrupt the flow of the raw feelings, over the course of several days.

I find the process of the author's writing of this collection of works extremely interesting. He almost seems to siphon excess energy off the games and then infuses this passion into his writing. The resulting poems and letters are filled with spiritual metaphor that often has double or triple meanings that go far beyond the surface of the original sporting activity.
