Great information, especially for those who need it most! February 15, 2008 Admittedly, my survivor skills and everything that goes along with them are atrociously poor. To be candid, I have a real weakness in that area. We all have our strengths and weaknesses, but what many consider to be common-sense skills at a wide variety of practical endeavors do not come naturally to me at all. Unfortunately, what I do have is a love of the outdoors and a family who loves it too. So putting the two together is like combining someone who would love to be a quarterback with the same someone who would never be able to remember plays or understand game strategy. As a result, when looking for the survival book I knew I and the family would need, I need something that was extremely thorough, well-described, and easy to understand.
The author's text does exactly that. I read it thoroughly and with a very critical eye from the perspective that I would really need to understand this. It covered everything I would have possibly thought of and more, and did it so that the reader would not have to guess at material that is so important. Cheers to Mr. Watson for a very excellent and job well done!
A good starting point January 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am headed to Alaska this summer with my daughter. It has been 30 years since I was in the boy scouts. I haven't been camping since then. This book provided me with a great overview of basic survival techniques I should be prepared to execute if something happens when I am outside the populated areas of Alaska. Simple straightforward suggestions that you don't need a degree in medicine, construction or botany to make sure you have the best chance of survival in the event of a crisis. This book is now my baseline for all the trip preparations.
VERY BASIC September 4, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Having read other survival books, I found this one to be extremely basic with very limited information in it. If I knew nothing about outdoor survival, I am sure that this book could add some value, but not much.
