Lots of easy projects May 7, 2008 I love this book and have made several projects from it. The instructions are easy to understand and the projects are really cute.
Simple Sewing April 24, 2008 Lotta's book offers modern, trendy, and affordable projects. Her patterns are very easy to follow, and can be alatered eaily to be made more personal. I whipped together the "all-day tote" yesterday to have on the plane next week when I go on vacation. Pick some great fabrics and you'll be on your way to some fantastic new things- made by you!!! (Also, these make wonderful, very affordable gifts!)
simple can be good April 16, 2008 This book is good for the semi-beginner - someone who knows how to work their machine & can thread a needle. It is not so much a "how to sew" but more of a how to sew these specific items...which are very cute. (FYI - IKEA fabric would be fantastic for these designs)If you are not new to sewing you may get bored b/c you'll hardly need the directions - but they are very cute ideas. p.s. if you are looking for an extensive "how to", try S.E.W. (sew everything workshop) by Rupp, its a great resource for nonbeginenrs to.
Good for beginners April 3, 2008 I purchased this book after spontaneously purchasing a sewing machine. I hadn't sewn since junior high so I was looking for a book with easy beginner projects. I purchased this book along with Sew Everything Workshop by Diana Rupp. It was a good combination. Sew Everything covers more of the basics and mechanics of sewing why Simple Sewing has more projects I wanted to complete.
So far I've made the draft snake and several tote bags. Sorry to disagree with the other reviewer but as someone who lives in an older home, the draft snake is actually quite useful. I was able to complete both the snake and tote bags within a few hours. I thought both projects to be easy to follow and very forgiving. It was easy to correct mistakes and still end up with a useable product.
The book has beautiful photography and the pictures are very inspiring. I find I get excited about sewing my next projects and come up with all sorts of ideas after looking through the book. I'm looking forward to making several of the other bags, the apron, pot holders and overn mitts. It is spiral bound which is very handy. I'm pleased with the purchase.
Disappointed :( February 18, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I purchased this book to assist me with some simple sewing ideas for the home. I am a beginning sewer and was looking for unique projects for my new hobby. Most of the projects are weird items that I would not consider making for my home( for example a window "snake".) The other projects are very common items that you can find directions on the internet. Overall very disappointing and a waste of money.
