Great buy for beginners May 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The patterns in this book are very simple and easy to read and mostly consists of single crochet. The projects are extremely cute as promised and the results are sure to make your friends and family "ooo" and "ahh". My only complaint would be that the descriptions of how to do the stitiches in the begining of the book are not very clear, I ended up looking up youtube videos of how to do the stitiches (very helpful).
A Really Great Little Book April 18, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is the second of three books I purchased on amigurumi. To be honest, I bought it because the pictures on the front were so adorable that they put me on a hunt for the author on the internet. I found her blog, which is terrific, and then I bought her book. I'm glad I did, because this book is definitely for the beginning crocheter. There are no assumptions that the reader has any more than a rudimentary knowledge of crochet and the directions are very clear.
The patterns are very simple and that's the strength of this book, in my opinion. After making several toys from this book, I was able to make my own "freestyle" patterns. I adapted her hedgehog pattern, along with the donkey pattern from the Kyuuto book (another excellent resource) and made an amigurumi alpaca. Go figure.
Although all of the patterns have the same basic look, this book, more than the others, has gotten me to experiment and create my own little beasts without written directions. That's a huge step for a beginner at crochet and quite an accomplishment for an author. I highly recommend this book as the first book you purchase on amigurumi. It will give you a good start, use up your yarn stash, and move you towards creating your own designs.
As mentioned already, the author has a lovely blog where she shares a few free patterns with her readers and shows off her latest creations. [...]
Easy and awesome! April 15, 2008 I had never seen Amigurumi before I saw this book. The creatures are adorable and sooo easy to make. I've made a few already - intended as gifts, but my children are begging for them. They think the animals are the cutest things ever. I love buying yarn but never know what to do with it. Now I know. And did I mention EASY!?!
Great book for beginners!! April 13, 2008 I've had some experience with crochet in the past and I was looking to get back into it through these dolls. After a couple of books on dolls that weren't very simple, I found this one! All of the patterns are easily explained and easy to put together. I would recommend this book to anyone just starting to back into crochet.
some great toys April 11, 2008 I own several Amigurumi books and like all of them. I made the girl elephant and just did yarn eyes as it's for a toddler. Instructions are easy to follow and I plan on making several more. The monkeys, dogs, and octupus are calling to me. Instructions are all written out with no Japanese type charts. The author writes in an encouraging way and the beginner can just hop right in. Highly recommended and I hope she comes out with a second book.
