Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This innovative and highly praised book describes the visible and palpable anatomy that forms the basis of clinical examination. The first chapter considers the anatomical terms needed for precise description of the parts of the body and movements from the anatomical positions. The remaining chapters are regionally organised and colour photographs demonstrate visible anatomy. Many of the photographs are reproduced with numbered overlays, indicating structures that can be seen, felt, moved or listened to. The surface markings of deeper structures are indicated together with common sites for injection of local anaesthetic, accessing blood vessels, biopsying organs and making incisions. The accompanying text describes the anatomical features of the illustrated structures.

  • Over 250 colour photographs with accompanying line drawings to indicate the position of major structures.

  • The seven regionally organised chapters cover all areas of male and female anatomy.

  • The text is closely aligned with the illustrations and highlights the relevance for the clinical examination of a patient.

  • Includes appropriate radiological images to aid understanding.

  • All line drawings now presented in colour to add clarity and improve the visual interpretation.
  • Includes 20 new illustrations of palpable and visible anatomy.
  • Revised text now more closely tied in with the text and with increasing emphasis on clinical examination of the body.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great overall   February 22, 2007

My book came in perfectly new condition. I was a little frustrated that it didn't get here as quickly as the other books I ordered, but it still came in an appropriate amount of time. Overall it was great, no problems.

4 out of 5 stars Nice illustrations   November 27, 2005

This is by no means a in-depth discussion of anatomy. However, it's a great book for matching the surface with underlying organs. Simple and clear illustrations to show to patients, if you are working in a clinic setting.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Anatomy and Physiology Book I've seen   April 1, 2005

This book was recommended by a college of mine, a retired Anatomy and Physiology Professor, when I started into my EMT-P class. I have referred to it several times. The photos are excellent and the line drawings over them are extremely helpful to me for locating structures under the surface of the skin.

This is the best Anatomy and Physiology Book I've seen. I highly recommend it for any student as an extra helping hand for their classes!

4 out of 5 stars Surface Anatomy - The Anatomical Basis of Clincal Examinatio   November 4, 2002

This is an excellent textbook for surface anatomy. Large, full-color photos of models. Pages are glossy magazine stock. Each chapter, per major body area (neck, pelvis, back, etc), includes similar photos of very clear cutaneous nerves and dermatomes - as clear as I've seen. Effectively, the text is broadly clinical, offering more than just rote surface descriptions. As its title suggests, the flow of the text relates surface anatomy to clinical examination and brings it to life.

In addition to very clear depiction of surface anatomy, each chapter includes separate photos for muscle attachments, major nerves and vessels, viscera and, interestingly, standard incision lines for major surgical procedures (eg nephrectomy, liver biopsy, peritoneal cath or laparoscope entry, etc) from head to sole. As a physician, teacher of physical examination, and thermologist, this book is an excellent resource - the cover of which is becoming well worn.

Why not 5 stars? The perpetual quest that there's always a book just that much better is the plague of most medical bibliophiles. Keeps Amazon alive...
