Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great book about fishing, history and nature   April 1, 2005

I first read this book a few years ago while I was up camping and flyfishing the Upper Sacramento and McCloud Rivers. From the start I enjoyed the excellent writing and tone of the book. But at night, under the starlit Mt. Shasta sky, reading the history of the waters and area I was fishing truly deepened the experience. This book describes the history of the land, the waters, the people who have made this area home, the wildlife, and gives great advice for fishing. I had the pleasure of fishing with Craig a few years ago, and he is a great guy, a great storyteller and a fisherman who truly knows and loves this beautiful area of the world. Read this book if you've never been to Mt. Shasta, but more important, go and enjoy this wonderful area.

I find this book astonishing in it's detail and breadth of focus. I heartily recommend it to anyone with any interest in California, social history, natural history, and wild trout. Enjoy!
