Awesome book for any Boulder outdoors person April 8, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As someone who lives in Eldora, and has spent a ton of time up on Caribou Flats, this book is simply an invaluable description of a time gone by. Lot's of historical info, backed with a more human side to keep the reader interested. It's amazing to think that in the 1870's, 3,000 people lived right on the Continental Divide, in some of the harshest conditions around, searching for silver. Even more amazing, that just 30 years later, the town was basically gone. Today the only occupants of Caribou are the caretaker of one of the remnant mines, a few mountain bikers, hikers, elk and other wildlife. It's a little eerie riding through this area, with all the ghosts wandering about. Cool read, highly recommended.
