Product Description Jen Lancaster was living the sweet life-until real life kicked her to the curb. She had the perfect man, the perfect job-hell, she had the perfect life-and there was no reason to think it wouldn't last. Or maybe there was, but Jen Lancaster was too busy being manicured, pedicured, highlighted, and generally adored to notice. This is the smart-mouthed, soul-searching story of a woman trying to figure out what happens next when she's gone from six figures to unemployment checks and she stops to reconsider some of the less-than-rosy attitudes and values she thought she'd never have to answer for when times were good. Filled with caustic wit and unusual insight, it's a rollicking read as speedy and unpredictable as the trajectory of a burst balloon.

Grab a cocktail & get ready for a wild ride! October 10, 2008 I was kind of late getting on the "Jennsylvania" bandwagon, bought all 3 books & now anxiously awaiting the 4th! I soooo want to meet her for a drink as a fellow Chicagoan, Purdue Pi Phi (I graduated before she was in high school) and ex Sales VP (pretty sure all of our salemen had VP on there cards at the time!) turned pet sitter, now doing what I want in cosmetics research (I was told that wouldn't pay as much as sales, they were right ):!!but much more fun and interesting). These books are great for us over 50 crowd, all my Pi Phi friends are VERY PROUD of her accomplishments, sense of wit and realization that life is funny! Cheers!
HILARIOUS! September 30, 2008 Jen Lancaster = my new favorite author! She is hilarious and sarcastic, and I love all of her books. This one being my absolute favorite!
Intelligently humorous September 11, 2008 Jen Lancaster is a panic!!! She says the things I think while biting my tongue. Actually, the older I get, 43, the more my "filters" are wearing out, causing me to sound more and more like the author. I can relate to her situation and enjoy her humorous take on it all. I have only one criticism: I could do without all 212 of the footnotes. You make the reader work too hard to read the funniest lines of all. My middle-aged eyes are already challenged enough. They don't like jumping up and down the page to read each hilarious footnote. Jen, could you find a way to work them into the paragraph they are referencing? Footnotes should be reserved for students, thank you very much!
This shrew is getting rich and I'm the "poor" sucker here laughing. September 2, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Jen is a truly deplorable woman. She's a spoiled brat who feels justified in going off on anyone who questions her.
She lost a job - boohoo. Hubby got snootfaced on her honeymoon - boohoo. No one wants to hire her - boohoo. Her dogs eat stuff and run up vet bills - boohoo.
In this book she describes in mindnumbing detail why the whole world is against her. Well, she made it obvious to me and the whole readership and it's quite apparent that she also sees the light - you can't spend like a drunken sailor on leave and then expect to have dough for smokes when the ship leaves port. Economics 101. The trouble is that I kept laughing at her hideous life choices. When Jen toddled her plump little self into the health fair only to find herself surrounded by marathon runners I laughed out loud. I'm ashamed to have liked this book - I think I should hate Jen but that's always been my downfall. I'm just a woman who loves (this book) too much! ....bg

I read a review for Jen Lancaster's newest book in some entertainment magizine. I loved the sound of her writing and her personality seemed somewhat familiar. Being the freak I am - I had to make sure that I read her work in order and checked to see if she had any previous books. BingO! I started hunting around the fiction isles and was getting miffed when I finally surendered and asked the store clerk for some assistance. To discover that her writing is also nonfiction floored me!! I grabbed my copy and headed to the nearest chair to give it a gander. I read the first few pages and was hooked. Jen writes so much of the stuff that really goes on in my head but I would be too chicken to write (anywhere other than my journals). She's funny and real! I can't wait to read her other books! I liked her so much that I checked out her website and was hoping she might make some southern bookstores for signings. I highly recommend this book and have been shamelessly pushing it at family and friends ever since! (Although, I threaten their lives when it comes down to my copy and demand that they purcahse their own :-) MUST READ!!! Love, Loved, Loved it!!!! e.
