The Yogurt Child in the Family and the Community (thanks to my 4 year old son who read the title to my book) August 31, 2008 This book is excellent. It gives plenty of insight into childrens involvement in the family and the community.

Disappointing Text on Important Topic. . . March 6, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I read this book as a required text for a class. While the interactions of child/family/community/caregivers are important, this text missed an opportunity to go beyond sloganeering and communicate practical steps in family/caregiver communication. Gonzalez-Mena uses loaded language to make her points throughout the text instead of clear writing and drawing from research. That weakens the very important points which the author seeks to make. While the text focuses on open communication, the book's use of emotionally-charged words sets an example of using loaded and judgment-laden terms.
Furthermore, in most chapters the author gets on a political soapbox, promoting pet policy issues which may or may not actually be helpful in the long run. She means well, but it is tiresome to be "preached at" repeatedly.
All in all, I'm sure the author really cares about children and teaching teachers. Yet I'm left feeling this class and the text have been a waste of tie for me.

I received the book that I ordered, which arrived in good condition. However, I was a little disappointed, because I paid for two-day shipping and it arrived in the same amount of time as if I had selected either the Free Shipping or 3-5 day shipping. But, I did receive the item, and it was in good condition, so I was happy that it did in fact arrive.
