Myron Bolitar is a fascinating character--a guy in his 30s who just moved into his own New York apartment, and who still looks forward to dinner with his parents in New Jersey. A former pro-basketball star and Harvard Law School grad, he now runs his own sports agency, and also dabbles in the private investigation business. He is helped (and sometimes hindered) by his rich, blond, preppy friend Windsor Horne Lockwood III. Win has some awesome lethal powers hidden under his Brooks Brothers suits!

In The Final Detail Win and Myron are looking into the murder of a client--a troubled New York Yankees baseball player called Clu Haid. Clu was apparently shot to death by Esperanza Diaz, who just happens to be Myron's best friend and partner in the sport's agency. Esperanza is hiding something, but Myron isn't sure if it has to do with her job, or with her private life. His search for the truth takes him back to a shabby incident from his own past, and to times he would rather forget. Author Harlan Coben casually drops in dozens of poignant moments of humanity that keep us--and Myron--firmly grounded in reality.

Other books in this excellent series include Backspin, Deal Breaker, Drop Shot, and One False Move. --Dick Adler

Product Description
From the award-winning author of One False Move comes Harlan Coben's most mesmerizing and emotionally charged novel to date.

Myron Bolitar, sports agent and reluctant sleuth, is happily basking in the sun of the Caribbean, clearing his head with a woman he hardly knows, when Win, his loyal but morally questionable sidekick, arrives to tell him that Esperanza, Myron's partner at MB SportsReps and best friend, has been arrested for the murder of Clu Haid, a fallen baseball star and Bolitar client.

Myron returns to the city immediately to prove Esperanza's innocence. But she isn't speaking. And neither is her lawyer, except to say that Myron and Win should keep their distance lest they hurt her case. But he is determined to help her, even against her own wishes--because, for Myron, this one is personal.

As he plunges into his most difficult and bizarre case yet, Myron finds himself scouring the strangest angles: a transsexual nightclub, a Yankee owner with a long-lost daughter, a dubious drug test, an impossible murder scene, and a computer disk with the image of a disintegrating girl. And as he tries to unearth a killer amid a tangled trail of lies, Myron's own investigation points to only one other suspect: himself . . . as this spellbinding novel twists, jolts, and careens toward its dazzling finish.

5 out of 5 stars Harlan Coben rocks!   August 27, 2008
I loved the book. Just finished it and have started another. It's great to find a new author to enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Great Mystery   August 15, 2008
The Myron Bolitar series is awesome. These books are just as good as his individual novels but they have a much more positve mood, are funnier, and are just great fun. This one was not complex but not so much that you got lost, and once again, as in Fade Away, it ended up having a great deal to do with Myron's past. Awesome!

4 out of 5 stars Another Solid Entry in the Bolitar Series   July 9, 2008

I'm a big fan of Harlan Coben, who I consider one of the best suspense writers working today. Like many people, I read Coben's standalone novels, like TELL NO ONE, first. I am now working my way through Coben's older novels, a series of murder mysteries involving a sports agent named Myron Bolitar. THE FINAL DETAIL is the sixth novel in that series, and it's very enjoyable.

I've read almost all of the Bolitar novels now, and I'm very impressed with this series as a whole. The Bolitar novels are more comedic than Coben's standalones, but the suspense novel is still very high. I really like Bolitar as a character, and the supporting cast is wonderfully colorful and eccentric. With one exception (BACK SPIN) this series seems to be getting better with each subsequent book, as Coben improves his writing and plotting skills.

THE FINAL DETAIL involves the murder of one of Bolitar's clients, a murder which threatens both his agency and his long-standing relationship with Esperanza, his business partner. The personal stakes for Bolitar are therefore higher in this novel, which leads to a very exciting read. My only quibble with this novel is the resolution, which kind of comes out of left field, and is not particularly believable. Overall, though, this book is both suspenseful and hilarious, a really fun read at every level.

While this Bolitar novel isn't quite as great as the one before it (ONE FALSE MOVE), it's a worthy addition to the series. I would, however, caution readers not to make this novel their first Bolitar read -- there are simply too many references to prior books and characters. Read the Bolitar books in order to maximize your enjoyment.

3 out of 5 stars My Final Bolitar Novel   June 30, 2008

I may try one more, but only if the action picks up. By reading this, you would not know that Myron Bolitar has a third degree black belt in marshal arts. Here he is always getting the crap beat out of him. Oh, by the way Win, Myron's rich friend has a sixth degree black belt and is usually underestimated by his opponents.

This Bolitar novel is readable, but just barely; Myron is becoming too much of a confused character. Thank God for Win who is strong and always on a steady course. This is a murder mystery, but Coben needs to pick up the action or their marshal art talents are wasted.

5 out of 5 stars Might Be Coben's Finest   June 28, 2008
In 'The Final Detail' Coben provides us with the strongest Myron Bolitor story yet, and that's saying something. Bolitor, as always, is an engaging hero. The story provides abundant internal strife for Myron on both a professional and personal level. But, playing the role of hero to perfection, Myron doesn't falter and uncovers the truth.

Outside of Myron, the story provides a heavy dose of Win, and we're rewarded with his best performance yet. Up until this book, Win was probably my least favorite recurring character in the series. Not any more. In 'The Final Detail', Win achieves status as a first rate character worthy of his status alongside Myron.

The plot flows well, and the stroy is multi-layered. Twists and turns are present of course, but they add to the story and are not simply used as gimmicks to confuse the reader. Humor is used well, as is angst. Coben never fails the reader, and the Bolitor series is especially strong. I'm anxious to move on to the next in the series.
