Great help in tournament planning November 10, 2006 Very handy source for competition planning. Within a week of purchase we held a 14 team round robin that was much easier to set up with the book's guidance. Our tournaments generally conform to the number of teams that show up, so a reference that allows very flexible formats is appreciated by the event co-ordinator
Excellent resource for Tournament Directors April 1, 2000 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Organizing Successful Tournaments is a great book for any budding tournament organizers or directors to build a library upon. John Byl does a very nice job of defining and discussing the various types of tournament, and how each one may or may not apply to the needs of the organizers. Included worksheets make this job even more simplistic and go a long way towards making the tasks of the tournament director less stressful. If there is any area that this book did not cover it would be that Mr. Byl focused mainly upon sporting tournaments instead of also including more game oriented events, such as cards, chess and the like. However, the tips, information, planning and worksheets make this book appicible to almost all events with very little alteration. A very nice job, and highly recommended!
