An Easy Vocabulary Builder
A Review of "Merriam-Webster's Vocabulary Builder"
by Mary Wood Cornog
ISBN 0-87779-910-5
Copyright 1998
This book 558 pages and is organized into twenty-five study units.
Each of the twenty five-study unit is composed of a series of classical roots. Each root has an explanation.
Following each root/explanation is a list of words based on the classical root. Each modern word has a pronunciation key, followed by a simplified definition and an example. The definitions are good and the examples are well thought-out. Frequent quizzes ensure comprehension.
This book is a good vocabulary builder and is easy to read and use as a self-study guide.

Great way to expand your mind May 23, 2008 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
The CD-ROM version seems to have gotten poor reviews, but never mind that. This is an excellent book to build and expand your vocabulary. It's not written like a dictionary which makes the writing kind of fun.

improving your vocabulary? September 9, 2007 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
This vocabulary book is designed to teach the 'learning of language' + improve your vocabulary by understanding the origins of each root. very effective and useful in memorizing/expanding your vocabulary skills. there are quizzes every 8 words or so, which makes it easier to memorize. instead of just building your vocab. in alphabetical order, try learning by roots.
Amazing! March 20, 2006 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
Takes the process of building up one's vocabulary one step further, by explainig the roots and origins of different prefixes and suffixes. Hence, you will be able to understand words not included in the book by simply deconstructing them, and interpreting the different parts. Truly excellent!
