Product Description
"This is the first coherent autobiographical study of its kind, and it is absolutely mesmerizing....Simply not be be missed."
THE DETROIT NEWS
When Joan Frances Casey "awoke" on the ledge of a building ready to jump, she did not know how she had gotten there. And it wasn't the first time she had blanked out. She decided to give therapy another try. And after a few sessions, Lynn Wilson, an experienced psychiatric social worker, was shocked to discover that Joan had MPD--Multiple Personality Disorder. And as she came to know Joan's distinct selves, Lynn uncovered a nightmarish pattern of emotional and physical abuse, including rape and incest, that nearly succeeded in smothering the artistic and intellectual gifts of this amazing young woman.

5 out of 5 stars Loved It   October 1, 2007
i have the older version which is falling apart and just found this newer version which im buying right away. this book is amazing and truly a page turner. it really sucks you in and shows you the world of a person with multiple personalities. some people critique the therepy used so on and so forth but thats not being asked. were talking about the book not the therepy. it is a must read for anybody.

Struggling with being a multiple myself, it was helpful to read about another person's struggles and how they dealt with these issues. I wish there were more autobiographies of this kind, it helps to not feel so totally alone.

2 out of 5 stars Least interesting and helpful book on the subject thus far   May 15, 2006

I have read many books on MPD/DID, and this one is the least interesting and helpful thus far. I do not wish to take any personal jabs at the author, however, MPD/DID is obviously not her only disorder. By the time you get to the end of the book and read about more post-healing "tragedies" and abuse, one gets the feeling that the author thrives on such drama. When people write autobigraphies, they take the reader into their world. I do not wish to be dragged into this author's world. It's not about happy endings, but it is about wanting to read truly good books written by truly healthy people who have truly overcome.

5 out of 5 stars Good book   February 28, 2006

This is a very readable account of Multiple Personality. Narrated by a single member of The Flock and supplemented by notes and diary entries of The Flock's therapist, it never gets confusing, as narratives of Multiplicty can. Ms Casey is a very good writer, and the feelings and motivations of several members of The Flock are presented.

There is also no graphic depiction of the abuse that caused Joan Frances Casey to shatter. It is dealt with matter-of-factly and rather distantly. The author focuses instead on The Flock's adult life.

It's a good book, non-triggering and safe but also quite interesting and informative.
