5 out of 5 stars The Re-Release of Fishing Bamboo   October 29, 2007
5 out of 5 found this review helpful

While I was hoping that the newly released version of John Gierach's original classic had been revised, I was not disappointed when I read my new copy. The first edition was an outstanding insight into the "cane mystic" and getting a new copy simply gave me a good excuse to re-read it and find out what I'd missed the first time. If you have the original, you don't need the reissue, but if you haven't read it in a while, you may have forgotten how good it was in the first place. Besides, most great literature comes out in a new package from time to time; why should John Gierach's work be excluded?

2 out of 5 stars Wishing for a new tile by Gierach -Reissue from Lyons Press   September 30, 2007

While anxiously anticipating the publication of a new title, or at least a new edition from favorite fly fishing author John Gierach, this 2007 book from Lyons press only changed the NEW SUBTITLE from the original one for FISHING BAMBOO by Gierach. Just a warning -not to be disappointed to discover this book is EXACTLY the same as the first edition -with the same old, good advice expected from Gierach. The new subtitle gives the hopeful impression that this book might have something additional from Gierach. Now, if you don't already have FISHING BAMBOO, it is an excellent title for any fishing enthusiasts. First editions are preferred for collections, though. The two star rating was giving for the disappointment, but an extra star over one, for the merit of the original book****
