Old and boring November 14, 2008 nothing new about Mr. bear, just "me-and-fred" writing isn't anything to brag about either skip it
Dick Lattimer should be ashamed! November 19, 2007 I purchased and read this book in the high hopes of learning about the man who modernized & revitalized bow hunting. Instead what I received was a book about the life of Dick Lattimer who seems to write as if he was vital to Fred Bear's life and success. What a shame that Mr. Lattimer wasted such a well titled book to not tell the whole and long awaited story about such a great man from the point of view of someone who worked intimately with Fred, however, instead he told a boring and drawn out story about how great Mr. Lattimer really feels he is. I would never recommend this book for anything other than a firestarter.
Worth every penny July 24, 2007 This was a purchase for a family member who is an avid outdoorsman. Once they started this book, they couldn't put it down. It's so good that there's a line forming for who gets to read it next. A great buy for any outdoor enthusiast.
Papa Bear May 14, 2007 I enjoyed the book for the most part, as it gave some insights into the greatness of the man, Fred Bear, his human side, and so on. Somehow it seemed to read a little too much like an autobiography of the author, it seemed to me.
Fitting Tribute to a Great Man January 18, 2007 If you have never heard of this man and you are an archer or bowhunter in the United States this book is a must read. If you are like myself and had a father whose hero was Fred Bear then you will learn even more about him. Dick's closeness with PB over the years truely shows as does the love he had for Fred Bear. I personally read this book and cried when I got to the UAW strike, Last Moments, and Eulogies of this great man. He did so much for archery, wildlife, bowhunting, and the world he deserves his own holiday. But he wouldn't think he deserved one cause he was to humble of a man. It is interesting to learn exactly what Fred had Lattimer doing for him all those years at Bear archery. Lattimer is truly lucky to have been thrown in with such a lot. Even if they did like to play jokes on him.
Regards, Samuel Ervin
