Product Description
Super Slam!: Adventures with North American Big Game is Chuck Adams's first book retracing his epic journey to take all 28 North American big game species with a bow. Chuck relives those incredible hunts - all in one book - one that no serious bowhunter will want to be without it. Imagine staring at a snarling 9' polar bear at 15 steps with nothing but a bow in your icy hand and no backup firepower. Imagine a raw, raining, 15-day hunt for Alaska brown bears and placing a tiny sight pin on a 1,400-pound monster. Imagine trekking for the Grand Slam of wild sheep; muskox 50 miles from the North Pole; and a world record elk in the Montana mountains. The writing is vintage Chuck Adams - spine tingling, extreme bowhunting adventure with practical, proven bowhunting knowledge woven throughout.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book!! Must have for any hunter!   June 30, 2006
This book is a must have for bow and gun hunters alike. I would love to someday complete the North American 28 but right now don't have the time or money. This book gives me hope because Chuck did most of his hunts on his own. He's a great bowhunter and storyteller. His accomplishments afield are second to no one. This books tells about it all.

3 out of 5 stars A Super Slam is an awesome accomplishment!   September 7, 2005

To be honest, I wasn't very thrilled reading this book. The adventures he writes about are awesome, but pretty much the same as in his autobiography "Life at Full Draw." I'm not sure why I was disappointed; it may be because much of what was written in "Life at Full Draw", was also included in Super Slam. I highly recommend "Life at Full Draw," because it tells a lot more about the life of Chuck from boyhood through his Super Slam!

1 out of 5 stars no excitement   October 5, 2004

I was disappointed that the great adventure of hunting 27 "big game" of North America was reduced to a tedious chronicle where you can almost substitue the 27 different animals into the "story"....how the guide took the hunter to the hunted and an arrow was shot killing the animal.

I can imagine the experience and knowledge that Chuck Adams has to have to be able to hunt these various animals with a bow and arrow and was hoping to "feel" excitement of the pursuit, the description of the dangers involved, the details of the hunting experience with a bow but alas all I got was a monotonous style of writing describing how he arrived, saw and shot.

Tedious reading. If you really want to read a good book about bow and arrow hunting, read the Field Notes of Fred Bear, well written, detailed and it lets you feel the hunt, written by the hand of the master bow hunter.

5 out of 5 stars A thrilling true-life narrative   June 7, 2004

Super Slam!: Adventures With North American Big Game is a narrative of expert bowhunter Chuck Adams' experiences with game animals ranging from Black Bears to Bighorn Sheep, Mountain Lions, Canada Moose and much more. A thrilling true-life narrative of braving weather, terrain, natural hazards, and more to test one's skill against the wiles of wildlife, Super Slam! an enjoyable, brisk-paced read for armchair travelers, dedicated hunters, and anyone wondering what it is truly like to stalk game without a gun.
