Ol' Plaster did his Home Work. August 26, 2008 I don't purchase a book like this to read, I do so to learn. While Plaster and I are from the same school of learning, he had a much better curve than I obviously. He compiles tons of information that takes years of scar tissue to otherwise get a handle on. If you are serious about shooting and there's something magical about throwing a hundred and seventy or so grain of lead a thousand yards, this will be someplace under your Bible, Tsun Tzu and any other books you value and turn to often! I figure this is one of those books that's going to save on of the "New" kids some where along the way!
Juba likes it. March 24, 2007 I bought this book because when I watched the Juba the Sniper movie they mentioned this book. During the video they interview the commander of the Baghdad sniper brigade he says this book is their main training manual. For all you who want to see theory applied to the real world downloand this movie, it shows about 25 attacks on US soldiers in Iraq. It will give you something to think about. What more do you need than real snipers saying they use this book?
Extremely detailed May 16, 2006 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This book is the finest book I own on precision shooting. And I own quite a few. Maj. Plaster is a master at precision shooting and has given us the science of it in this book. This book scientifically teaches you how to put one bullet into a target at extreme ranges. It also teaches you about stalking, building hides, range estimation, counter sniping, mantracking, target priorities, camo in various environments, and something defensive books doesn't ever teach you, offensive tactics. I have probably read this book 3 times over, because there is so much detailed information in this book to learn. This book is written so that even the most unskilled shooter can understand. Survival and equipment section is just as informative. Buy this book before you buy or build your rifle, for it will open your eyes as to what to look for in a rifle and scope.

In my opinion, John Plaster's book of sniping is an excellent source for fundamentals to advanced techniques. From mildot ranging, ballistics, and terrain awareness. I recommend this as a "must have first" book. You will not be disappointed.
