Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
A day at the beach! What could be more perfect? Gulls "squawk-squawking," seaweed in your hair, sandcastles to build, a sea to splash in, and a pal to share it all with. A little girl basks in the joys of the seashore in this carefree celebration of simple pleasures. She and her newfound friend spend the day swimming, playing, picnicking, and exploring, with her mom and his dad never too far away. Patricia Hubbell's rhymes frolic across the pages, peppered with exuberant repetitions ("We jump in the water / And dance, dance, dance.") and silliness ("Flippy-floppy sun hat. / Wiggly-waggly toes"). Every bit as bouncy as her Bouncing Time, this cheery book is just right any time, even in the chill of winter. In her wide swatches of soft color, Lisa Campbell Ernst, author and illustrator of the beloved Sam Johnson and the Blue Ribbon Quilt and many other popular picture books, captures the glee and golden warmth of a sunny summer day. (Ages 3 to 7) --Emilie Coulter

5 out of 5 stars Rhyming beach day   May 4, 2004
3 out of 3 found this review helpful

The narrator is a small girl whose mom is packing the car for a day at the beach. When the car is packed, they drive off to the beach, where there's another kid to play with, sand castles to build, and seaweed to wear. The story is cute and presented in rhyme. It has about 200 words.

I first purchased this book to familiarize my three year old son about the beach. The more I read this book, the more I liked it. The illustrations are incredible. The author has such a beautiful flow of words. I even used this book to do a lesson presentation in one of my graduate classes. I absolutely cannot wait for the authors next book to be available.

5 out of 5 stars Fun at the Beach.....   July 31, 2001

What's better than a sun-filled, fun-filled day at the beach. Hearing the sea gulls squawk and playing in the sand. Making a new friend and building a giant sand castle together. You can put seashells on your toes and seaweed in your hair, play in the waves and get sand everywhere. It's fun to eat a picnic lunch on your towel, play catch with a big beach ball, wave at faraway boats and explore the rocks and tidal pools finding starfish and minnows..... Patricia Hubbell has captured those wonderful carefree childhood days in her terrific new picture book and youngsters 3-7 will delight in all the glorious summer fun. Told in lilting rhyme, her joyful text is enhanced by Lisa Campbell Ernst's soft, sun-shiny, expressive illustrations that will transport you to the beach on a perfect summer day even if the snow is falling outside your window. Sea, Sand, Me! is a wonderful addition to your home library and a book children will beg to read again and again.
