Finally my wife is learning REAL German April 21, 2008 This book is great. It teaches how we really talk in Germany. My wife's German teacher hates "Umgangsprache" and I believe that she should be learning how we talk and not how to sound grammatically correct.
There is only a few words that I did not know, because I grew up in a different area and I was only 9 years when the book was published, but overall a great way to learn to blend in when visiting Germany.
Nice fun gift April 17, 2008 This was a hit as a gift for a family member, who still uses the book off and on. The translations in this book are ok. There are quite a few words in German that nobody actually uses anymore, but the book overall is fun and you can actually learn a couple things. I advise people who are not used to swearing, cursing or using graphic language to look for a different book - off course the title itself tells you that already.
GREAT BOOK February 9, 2008 Great book ....I speak German but my Husband speaks English so that book helps alot to explain the german language even better ....and not just the bad words....lol.... Sometimes it's hard to translate or explain german words or sentences into english..
A lot of fun. January 7, 2008 My husband is a German Major and loved this book. He has not put it down since I gave it to him.
Profanity in German July 28, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
A lot of people try to avoid learning swear words in other languages. I don't understand why. These words are part of the language, and you shouldn't avoid them because they make you feel bad. Barry Farber and A.G. Hawke say in their books that you shoud avoid learning profanity in other languages. I say you should as long as you avoid SAYING them. Just KNOW them. I discuss this in my new book.
