4 out of 5 stars No nonsense learning   July 20, 2008
Very good book for those looking to get right to the heart of passing the Technician test. Not too much theory here, but the discussion of why a particular answer to an exam question is correct is better than having to dig it out of the ARRL book. This gets right to the questions and answers, which is why you would buy this book in the first place. The enclosed CD seems to me to be not much more than an advertisment to become a ham operator.

5 out of 5 stars Read, take notes and PASS the EXAM!   May 3, 2008
I purchased Gordon West's Technician book and CD set along with the General book and CD set in early April. My goal was to prepare for concurrent testing for both licenses, provided I passed the Technician exam. I read the books, highlighting questions, answers and Gordo's memory tips on the ones that gave me trouble. The CD's were invaluable as they allowed me to use daily commuting time to listen to Gordo's explanations and memory joggers. On May 1, I passed both tests (Technician with no errors and General with one wrong answer) in a total of 18 minutes including time to grade the Technician exam. I've ordered his NEW Extra study materials and anticipate the same degree of quick, sound success. If you want to get your ham ticket, trust Gordo!

4 out of 5 stars If I Don't Pass the Exam, It is My Fault   March 2, 2008
I can't imagine a better prep for the FCC Technician Test. The exam won't be easy, but this book gives you every test question you might encounter with the answer. Key words are highlighted so you will remember. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is I haven't passed the test yet.

3 out of 5 stars Review   January 18, 2008
Book has a few good tips, but basically is simply a compilation of the pool of questions (with answers) the Technician Class exams are drawn from--and this is freely available elsewhere. I found his exposition of the answers to generally not be very helpful--somewhat in the vein of "this is the answer because this is the answer." Nonetheless, one DOES need the list of questions and answers to review for the exam.

5 out of 5 stars Good summary book   January 6, 2008
Great book. Read the book cover to cover, then took some online practice exams. Never got less than an 89%. Took the real deal test and got a 33/35. The whole process was 2 weeks long. One note of caution though. I am a Software Engineer, thus I've had lots of math and physics, so the RF and electronics stuff was a refresher for me. If you are new to electronics and RF in general this book is light on that material, however you may still be able to pass the exam. Good luck....
