5 out of 5 stars A streamside gem   December 17, 2006

This little book is unique. It combines high quality photos of most of the New England streamside insects trout love to eat with examples of imitations we hope they'll try. The author, a professional photogapher, avid fly fisherman and amateur entomologist, has devised means to capture the appearance of these tasty bugs in perfect detail as they develop from their origins on the stream bottom to their emerging stages in the biologic drift to their mature forms, winged and mating on and above the surface. This book fits in a zip lock sandwich baggy in your hip pocket, and paired with your curiosity on the water, you will get streamside bug savvy and catch more trout.

5 out of 5 stars Great for Vest or Bench   October 14, 2003

This is not only a great streamside reference but nice to keep near the fly tying bench when attempting to match the hatch. There are excellent high quality photos of the bugs on the left hand side with info about the bugs habitat, etc... Also you get pictures of at least three corresponding flies with tips on how to fish them. The book covers Caddis, Mayflies, Stones, Terrestrials. I fish mainly in North Carolina and find the book extremely helpful.
