Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The peaceful town of Lake Emily will never be the same when Trudy Ploog comes to stay!

Mae Morgan’s flamboyant art teacher sister, Trudy Ploog, moves to the quiet, rural town of Lake Emily, Minnesota, to be closer to Bert Biddle, her shy, unassuming farmer boyfriend. Everything is perfect and then…the school board cuts the Gifted and Talented program and rumors of more cuts fly.

Outraged, Trudy kicks up a whirlwind, beginning with a letter to the paper that questions the very foundation of small-town life–high school sports! Soon the whole town is talking, and Trudy and Bert are put to the test. Meanwhile, the Morgan family is recovering from the loss of a child and the death of a life-long dream as Virginia Morgan helps a father and daughter rediscover life.

A hopeful story of facing the challenges of life with courage and learning to see with eyes of grace, Dandelions in a Jelly Jar gently reminds you that the best bouquets are dandelions.

“A welcomed new voice in a genre that is begging for novels of this caliber. Bravo.”
–Ted Dekker, best-selling author of Blink and Thr3e

“Traci’s books… call my name and soothe my soul.” Jane Kirkpatrick, award-winning author of All Together in One Place and A Name of Her Own

3 out of 5 stars Predictable   August 31, 2007
I will be honest. I just skim-read this book in about an hour and a half, because there was just not much plot to follow. I read the first book, and it was just okay. I was hoping this book would expand on the characters, but the characters are just shallow and immature. I really wanted to like this series. With that being said, it was not a bad little story, and actually kind of cute in spots, just don't expect much from it.

5 out of 5 stars Author, Author!!   July 8, 2007
Traci DePree is a fantastic author in the religious fiction genre. She writes about what she knows, southern Minnesota. There is great comfort reading about your own area in a book. The first in the series, "A Can of Peas", is one that made me laugh and cry more than any book I've read. Ms. DePree has a writing style that is straight forward and to the point. She doesn't use complicated sentences or difficult words to understand. She is a phenomenal writer that I will definitely follow in the future.

1 out of 5 stars Reality Check   February 6, 2007
Find something else to read! To compare this series equably with the Mitford series is an insult to Jan Karon. DePree's ideas are great, but she can not bring them to life. To open one of the Lake Emily books is to open a giftbox and find it empty. Too many characters and the main ones are so flat that it is hard to care about what is happening to them. I have had to read the series for my book club and it has been an eternity waiting for it to end. Is the Christian genre so desperate for writers to feed a hungry market that it would publish these one-dimensional stories?

1 out of 5 stars The dandelions died   October 27, 2006

This book was disappointing. The main characters were flat. The reader cannot get to know them or care what happens to them. There are so many secondary characters that it is hard to keep everybody straight.

I also had trouble "getting into" the scene. A good book will draw me in, making me feel like I'm there, participating in it all. I could not get that from this book.

This is supposed to be a Christian book, but God is barely mentioned at all. He doesn't seem to have a place in their lives. It's like He is an after-thought.

I will not read any other books that follow this series.

4 out of 5 stars A joy to read   May 12, 2006

Dandelions In A Jelly Jar is the second book in the Lake Emily series by Traci DePree. This time, the main part of the story centers around Trudy Ploog but we still get to visit with some of our favorite characters from A Can Of Peas.
Trudy moves to Lake Emily to teach at the local school and to be closer to Burt and her sister Mae. Life is not going to be easy for her because Trudy has a way of opening up her big mouth and causing a bit of trouble. Lake Emily will never be the same with Trudy in the mix.
I cant wait to read Aprons On A Clothesline to see where this story goes.
