Product Description What begins as a two-night camping and kayaking trek in the untamed Alaskan wilderness turns into a test of survival for Cody and her cousin Derek. While their mothers are in Juneau picking up supplies for Yakutat Lodge, the cousins sneak off in an old pickup. The taste of freedom is soon tainted when Cody's kayak is lost on the rising tide, washing away her life vest and precious supplies.
With only each other for support, the cousins face hunger and their fears of the unknown region of Southeast Alaska. As an advancing glacier floods the remote fjord, Cody and Derek find themselves facing menacing waves, immense icebergs, and wild animals. A sense that someone is following them adds to the formidable danger.

Alaskan Survival July 6, 2007 Cody feels at home in the Alaskan wilderness. She and her mother spend their summers there, living and working in a small tavern, and Cody has gone on many expeditions with experienced tour guides down the fjords. Her cousin Derek, visiting from California, wants to have a kayaking and camping trip to see some glaciers, and when their mothers are away for a couple of days, it seems like the perfect time to sneak off.
Right from the start, when she realizes Derek hasn't brought appropriate clothes for kayaking and camping, the trip has a bad feel to it. But Cody presses on, anyway. When disaster strikes and leaves them stranded on the fjord, though, will she be able to keep herself and her cousin safe?
I liked the survival aspect of this story, and reading about what Cody and Derek would have to do to survive their arduous journey. However, the Wildman character and his helping was a little bit too easy. I also didn't really like Cody's character. She was a bit too smug about her abilities and I didn't like how she didn't trust Derek about the Wildman.
Frozen Stiff November 1, 2001 Frozen Stiff by Sherry ShahanCody's mother and her cousin Derek's mother are away in Juneau, Alaska. Cody and Derek plan to go kayaking and camp out on an island in Alaska. The two cousins lose their kayaks and are stranded on the island. They camp out on the island, but then they think someone is spying on them. What they thought was going to be a simple two night trip turned out to be a longer and harder journey. This is a really exiting book. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read interesting, funny mystery books.

The setting takes place between Yukatat and juneau Alaska at least in the late 1980's. A girl named Cody travels with her cousin Derek to Juneau, Alaska from Yukatat, Alaska. To find their mothers who are shopping for supplies traveling by kayak. Trying to beat the rising current Cody loses her kayak in the current that had all their supplies that was needed. Cody gets a fever in which she almost dies but thanks to Derek she was calmed down. Cody goes blind from the glare of the sun off the salt water. They almost get to the city but, were caught in a storm. Imagery was used in this story because it creates pictures in the mind of the reader. I think that this is a very good and interesting book. When I started to read it I couldn't blink my eyes. I like the character Derek because it was cool how he took care of her cousin.

15 year old Cody and her 12 year old cousin think that they are sneaking off for a carefree 2-day camping and Kayak trip in glacier/fjord wilderness in Southwest Alaska, while their mothers are in Juneau bueing supplies. The trip soon turns into a terrifing week when the Hubbard Glacier "serges" blocking the Fjord, the water leval rises and washes Codyes kayak away and a lot of their supplies. Soon they are soaking wet, starving , and tired. The fun two night trip becomes a fight for servivle, the're fighting huge glaciers, waves, and the worst par is they think they are being followed!
One of Sherry Shahan's Best Books Ever February 19, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Sherry Shahan's FROZEN STIFF is a thrilling story about fourteen-year-old Cody, and her twelve-year-old cousin Derek's frightening excursion in the Alaskan wilderness. They start out on a seemingly harmless camp out and kayak trip. Looking forward to two days of blissful independence, the cousins right away are thrust into the harsh realities of nature. As they face one life-threatening challenge after another, Cody and Derek suffer physical perils in a struggle to survive. A believable story, I found myself in the wilds along with the strong-willed cousins. This book of adventure equals in excellence with Gary Paulson's HATCHET.
