Editorial Reviews:

Book Description
In this fascinating biography of basketball superstar George Mikan, Michael Schumacher chronicles the life and career of a player so dominating that he literally changed the way the game was played and, in the process, helped launch the fledgling National Basketball Association. Mikan’s Hall of Fame career included numerous national titles?in college with DePaul and five times in the pros with the Minneapolis Lakers. Named the greatest basketball player of the first half of the twentieth century, “Mr. Basketball” cast such a large shadow that the Madison Square Garden marquee, in announcing an upcoming game, simply said, “George Mikan vs. the Knicks.”

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars A Typical Book About A Long Forgotten Star   April 9, 2008
By "typical book," I mean that it covers Mikan's career in great detail, give you some early biographical info, and then zips thru this post career life in mere seconds, until coverage of his death - maybe there isn't much happening after an athlete retires but it should would be nice to see some real research every once in a while. Wait for this to come out in paperback - in fact, wait for it to come out in mass market paperback - either that or in your library's discard pile.
