Amazon.com With half of the text devoted to thorough coverage of the basics, this guide provides an excellent introduction to an increasingly popular medium. Polymer clay is readily available and easy to work with, but must first be prepared properly. New Ways explains everything from conditioning to adding texture to working with various tools to baking procedures. The second half offers 10 step-by-step projects, including boxes, picture frames, jar lids, and a variety of ornaments.

good as a resource, not good as a project book September 3, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was a bit disappointed in this book. This book showed some very nice projects, however, often only one item from the multi-itemed pictures was actually detailed in the book. So, if you flip through this book and think you're getting instructions on all the beautifully detailed projects that are pictured,- beware. It is usually the simplest item in the picture that actually has instructions included. For example: A beautifully elaborate "candy box" is shown with faux chocolates. The instructions for the box are not included, just the directions on how to push the brown PC into a candy mold to make the candies... However, the author did a very thorough job of explaining the different types of PC on the market and detailing the properties and strengths of each. I do believe this is a valuable reference for all levels of PC artists. Her discussion on glues was also helpful. For this information, I have given the book 3 stars, but I think people should be aware of what they're buying.
Very disappointing book May 3, 2005 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I was eagerly waiting for this book to learn more techniques. 1/2 of the book is just explaining where polymer clay comes from and then jumps to projects that are not relative to what you just read. I don't recommended at all. Not even for beginners.
Exactly what I was looking for! December 7, 2003 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I am relatively new to polymer clays and was feeling abit overwhelmed not knowing what to do next. This book caught my eye after having looked at several books that were just abit too 'newbie'. Kris Richads bridged that gap between 'newbie' and what the heck do I do now phase with this well written book:) The basics section in part one was more than just basics, which was exactly what I was looking for and the projects in part two are simple but could be modified to the intermediate/semi-advanced with ease:):) All around great book and worth every red-cent:)
Disappointing January 30, 2001 15 out of 18 found this review helpful
I was VERY disappointed with this book. This is for beginners. The title claims the techniques are new and it's the 'next generation.' Okay, so it's a few years old--but everthing in it has been written about before this came out. Directions are not complete. Ornaments are 'cutesy.' Get the Weekend Crafter book if you want good projects to learn techniques.
A must have for your Polymer Clay Library! May 3, 2000 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
As a Polymer Clay artist and a person who tries to help many other people in real life and on the internet learn more and more about Polymer Clay, Kris Richards Book "New Ways with Polymer Clay" is on my SHORT LIST, of must have books for the PC beginner! If you have a question, you will get an answer from this book! Kris Richards has been writing about Polymer Clay for many years and all of her books give you a wonderful basis to build your knowledge of this incredible medium!
