Product Description In his sensational international bestseller, the preeminent scientist and outspoken atheist Richard Dawkins delivers a hard-hitting, impassioned, but humorous rebuttal of religious belief. With rigor and wit, Dawkins eviscerates the arguments for religion and demonstrates the supreme improbability of the existence of a supreme being. He makes a compelling case that faith is not just irrational, but potentially deadly. In a preface written for the paperback edition, Dawkins responds to some of the controversies the book has incited. This brilliantly argued, provocative book challenges all of us to test our beliefs, no matter what beliefs we hold.

Excellent read for those who are not science oriented but seek what is true. There is a lot of logical opinion, gleaned from years of experience with scientific methodology, in the book. It probably will not convert anyone dependent on superstition. It will explain much to the seeker of knowledge. For those who have some knowledge and a reasoning perspective of reality, it will provide answers and direction in answering queries from the superstitious.
Religion Soundly Thrashed May 16, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Richard Dawson has presented a "fair and balanced" expose of the delusional fantasy of god. All religions and sects are equally resposible and to blame, for the squandering of both life and the worlds resources, over the eons; in the name of the fiction of religion. His discussion on the fallacy of separation of church and State as practised in America makes for great reading, and should inspire us all to get the church out of the State's business. Let them pay taxes, like the rest of us, if they want to participate in politics The book is not an easy read as is true with most non-fiction, but it is well worth the effort. Congratulations to Dr Dawson for this outstanding presentation of the "true" truth.
THE GOD DELUSION May 16, 2008 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
THE GOD DELUSION by Dawkins is poorly organized, rather ego driven and often short on historical facts. I would recommend THE CHRIST CONSPIRACY for those seeking an understanding of our religious origins and the case for atheism.

For an author with open contempt towards religion, one would expect 'The God Delusion' to preach to the Atheist choir by degrading religion and dismissing it as pure fantasy.
To a degree Dawkins does just that but he shows restraint and approaches the topic from a purely scientific standpoint. In addition to explaining the probability (and lack there of) of a creator he covers social issues involving religion as well as the scripture itself.
At one point in my reading of 'The God Delusion' I went to my Bible and read the referenced sections for myself because I just couldn't believe Dawkins claims of incest, gang rape, and genocide. Of course, these passages were in the Bible and at that point (after putting down Dawkins book to re-read the Bible, which I had not read since I was 12 years old), the points Dawkins is trying to make start to become a sort of clarity for me.
I'd hate to say the book is revolutionary, but for me that's essentially what it was.

This book was interesting mostly because he shares many of the same views I have about religion. I heard about the book on either The John Stewart Show or The Colbert Report and I enjoyed what the author had to say. I would recommend this book to other but you must read it with an open mind...
