Product Description A mysterious plane crash . . . a dangerous trek through the Idaho wilderness . . . a smoldering attraction . . . and a deadly game of cat and mouse. In her latest tour de force of romantic suspense, New York Times bestselling author Linda Howard blends these elements into a gripping story that will keep readers breathless–and leave them begging for more. For in Linda Howard’s world, trust can be a weapon, a kiss can be a threat, and intimacy can be deadly.
Bailey Wingate’s scheming adult stepchildren are surprised when their father’s will leaves Bailey in control of their fortune, and war ensues. A year later, while flying from Seattle to Denver in a small plane, Bailey nearly dies herself when the engine sputters–and then fails.
Cam Justice, her sexy Texan pilot, manages to crash-land the aircraft. Stranded in the wilderness, and struggling to douse her feelings for the ruggedly handsome man by her side, Bailey begins to wonder whether this was a mere accident. Who tampered with their plane? Who’s trying to reunite Bailey and her husband in the afterlife? Cut off from the world, and with little hope of rescue, Bailey must trust her life–and heart–to Cam, as they battle the harsh elements to find a way out of the unforgiving wilds and back to civilization . . . where a killer may be waiting to finish the job.
Sexy, suspenseful, and lightning fast, Up Close and Dangerous showcases a beloved author at her dazzling best.

Not your typical Lin Howard romp. August 11, 2008 To call Up Close and Dangerous a stereo typical Lin Howard romp wouldn't truly justify the novel. The characters while well developed don't fit into Howard's usual mold. Bailey Wingate is the lead female of the story who uses her feminine guile to acquire all the materialistic wealth she was denied as a poor child raised in a broken home and enjoys the finer aspects of life, mostly a flying-limo service. While Bailey is acquiring her worldly desires she takes a vacation that changes her life forever. Up Close and Dangerous isn't the typical style we've come to love from Lin Howard it is a good suspense filled romance with depth-filled characters that seem cold and callous at times, but if you're a Howard fan you may not want to miss it.

A crash manual August 8, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you want to know what to do in an emergency landing this book is the one. If you want to know about first aid care in a mountain read it. If you want to read a so so love story go ahead. If you want to read a thriller SKIP this one.
Just terrible August 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought the paperback used. Glad I did. Even that was way too much to pay for what seems like a instraction manual for when you crash in the mountains. The ending? The book just ended! Nope, glad I waited and didn't buy the hardcover.... I used to wait with anticipation for her books. No longer...
Up Close with Cardboard Characters and Dangerously Dull Action July 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
With a title like 'Up Close and Dangerous' and a nice interesting concept just built for suspense, romance and action - this book amazingly fails to deliver on all fronts.
It's hard to believe that with all the opportunities provided of two characters perilously crash-landed in the bitter cold of Idaho that this could be THAT dull. But, dull is exactly what the story, the cardboard characters and the writing deliver. Not a day after their crash - and I was already wondering "Who Cares?".
Bottom Line: DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. For romance and page-turning suspense - look elsewhere. There are just too many better options.
A Mild Mystery, Major Romance June 25, 2008 Bailey Wingate was both married and widowed within one year and left in charge of a multi million-dollar trust fund for her two stepchildren who whose sole priority is to make her life miserable. In an attempt to escape the drama, Bailey embarks from Washington on a two-week river-rafting trip to Denver Colorado. She is paired with Cam Justice as her pilot to ferry her across the air. Cam had made it clear that he dislikes Bailey and she returns the sentiment. While crossing the mountains the plane experiences some serious problems and both Cam and Bailey crash on top of a snow covered mountain. Left with little options Bailey drags an injured Cam from the destroyed aircraft and aids to his serious head injury. Stuck on the top of a mountain with the realization of sabotage and no hope of rescue, Cam and Bailey work together to help themselves and along the way Bailey gives more of herself to Cam than she ever has to anyone else before. Set in snow, Linda Howard provides some hot and steamy scenes between the two leading characters and strings along a minor mystery. Up Close and Dangerous is a good read, the main characters are highly developed and intense and the minor characters are very interesting but do not play an important to the story. The book lacks a strong mystery and would be better classified as a romance. Valerie Jones mrsvaljones@netzero.net
