The best spanish resource I know March 1, 2006 I have tried many other Spanish resources and audio, but this one is the best hands down (of the ones that I have tried). The book is very well laid out and combined with the audio CDs, it gets you really concentrating on the important aspects of the spanish language. The audio tracks are spoken very clearly by a number of native spanish speaking people from both Spain and Latin America in interview like situations. It teaches phrases, vocab, pronounciation and grammar with transcripts to all the audio. In my opinion, the BBC has released a superior product that teaches you much more than merely the "bare essential" phrases. If you want to learn Spanish (the language) these resources will prove invaluable. If you only need to know simple phrases (like "hello", "my name is ...", "where are the toilets?" etc. etc.), then there is more information in here than you really need to know, especially since this is only the first book of FOUR!!! I am certainly going to move up to Suenos World Spanish 2. A bad student needs a good teacher ... for me, Suenos is worth it. PS. The Sydney Institute of Tertiary And Further Education (TAFE NSW, Australia) specifies this book as it's text book for Spanish Certificate I and II. I am currently enrolled in Spanish Certificate II and highly recommend the book.
Great Resource for Teachers September 9, 2000 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Suenos World Spanish is my favorite resource for teaching adults. The textbook is intended for independent learning, but combined with the workbook it works well in a classroom setting. Relevant cultural sections, good pictures, plenty of oral and written practice and very clear explanations about the way Spanish functions are the main features of this work. I have used the recordings consistently to introduce my students to everyday life topics - they are authentic (speakers are real people, not actors) and blend easily with other teaching materials.
