Product Description At 29, Julie Barenson is too young to give up on love. Four years after her husband's tragic death, she is finally ready to risk giving her heart to someone again. But to whom? Should it be Richard Franklin, who is handsome and sophisticated and treats her like a queen, or Mike Harris, who is Julie's best friend in the world, though not as debonair? Now, with a decision that should bring her more happiness than she's had in years, Julie's life is about to become a living nightmare, as one man's jealousy spins into a deadly obsession.
Download Description EBook Special Feature: Read about what Nicholas Sparks has to say about writing his last two books, Nights in Rodanthe and A Bend in the Road. Also includes the first two chapters of each book. Since her husband's tragic death fours years before, 29-year-old Julie Barenson had been reluctant to date, but now feels ready to test the waters. Soon, she is being wined and dined by Richard Franklin, a handsome and sophisticated engineer who treats her like a queen. She also suddenly finds herself entertaining romantic thoughts about Mike Harris, her best friend in the world. Mike is nowhere near as debonair as Richard and has permanent grease stains on his hands from his work as an auto mechanic, but he's funny, loyal, and a great favorite with Julie's beloved dog Singer. When Julie innocently chooses between the two men, she has no idea that she will set off a chain of events at once terrifying, dangerous and, ultimately, deadly. A riveting tale of love, jealousy, and obsession, THE GUARDIAN has all the romance that Nicholas Sparks' fans have come to expect as well as a new element of suspense that will keep them turning the pages late into the night.

Love goes first, thriller - second August 18, 2008 I've never read anything by this author before, but after watching a movie called "The Notebook", I thought that this writer is worth my attention. At first, I kind of expected to get some complicated love story with characters wandering back and forth with their decisions, but later on I got really satisfied to find out thriller included into the story. As I was a little bit tired at that time of reading "simple" love stories, this book provided me exactly what I needed: some action intertwined into the love story.
the guardian August 3, 2008 Nicholas sparks does not disappoint. He never does.He brings you in slowly, lets you out, and then reels you in for the delight.
Sparks should avoid the suspense June 17, 2008 The Guardian is different from the other Nicholas Sparks books I've read in that he tried to reach into the action and suspense genres. It was a good attempt, but he should stick to what he's good at; much of this story was predictable. However, the characters are endearing and the book flows nicely. Not the best from Sparks, but still a good book.
Disappointing June 15, 2008 I am a huge fan of Sparks and have read everything he has written except this. I read this for a bookclub and was hoping that it would be good. I didn't like this book at all. I was very slow, and I skimmed about a fourth of the book.
A heartwarming tearjerker May 20, 2008 I have read a few books from Nicholas Sparks, but this one has topped the list of one of my all time favorites, by any author. This was a true classic of heartwarming devotion.
For those of us that have more than our fair share of sentimentality, here's a warning; Have a few tissues on hand, or maybe even a whole box.
