Amazon.com Review We seldom realize the degree to which our success depends on how we react to failure. Roger Crawford, a speaker and business consultant who says the physical "inconveniences" he's lived with since birth have taught him to be flexible, argues that thinking resiliently is even more important than thinking positively in getting what we want out of life. While positive thinkers might tell themselves, "I feel happy," even when they don't, a resilient thinker would say, "Right now I feel lousy, but I have it in my power to be happy." Because that's not an attitude that comes naturally to many people, he offers a variety of tips on reframing our internal dialogue. While some of Crawford's advice will sound familiar to readers of achievement-oriented books, those who need a push to continue in the face of adversity will find it in How High Can You Bounce?

Helpful! One of the best on "Resilience" April 21, 2007 Allow me to quote from one of my all time tennis champion favorite Chris Evert on the back cover, "In life, as in tennis, it's the bounce that counts! Roger Crawford shows how resilience is the difference between playing to win and playing not to lose." In short, in case you really want to read a book that talks on resilience, this is it. Highly recommended!
Below please find some of my favorite passages for your reference:-
As humans, we're capable of dealing with only one dominant thought at a time. Therefore, it's impossible to be both resilient and pessimistic simultaneously. You have to choose, and you become what you think about most. People ...call it the "Principle of Dominant Thought". pg 17
Argue for your limitations and they are yours. - Richard Bach pg 18
Positive thinking: I feel happy. (But I really dont) Resilient thinking: Right now I feel lousy, but I have it in my power to be happy. Positive thinking: I am successful. (But I'm not) Resilient thinking: Today I had a setback, but i can turn it around. pg 19
Not: I wont fall below my sales quota this month. But:I will meet my sales quota this month. Not: Stop doing that! But: Do this! pg 20
Whenever you catch youself saying "if only", make a conscious switch to "next time". pg 23
Count the blessings of the day. Practice an attitude of gratitude. pg 27
Suppose you are playing a tennis match and expect to win 55% of the points and lose 45%. That's a 10% spread. What are your chances of winning the match? .....91%. What % point spread would you need to win at least 99% of your matches? ....about 20%. pg 29
Even when you dont feel like laughing, try smiling. That smiling draws positive attention to you and tends to make you and others feel at ease. Smiling conveys self-acceptance and an accepting attitude towards others. It increases others' confidence in themselves and in you. Smiling makes you appear approachable, friendly, relaxed, open and comfortable. pg 45
If you dont periodically ask, "Where am I going?" the groove you're in can become a rut. pg 179
What a great book November 7, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this book, I read it over and over, I cannot get enough of it. This book has taught me how to remain positive regardless of the situation. My new motivational word is now "Resilience". Whenever I am feeling stressed or facing a challenge, I think about what Roger Crawford says in the book and the experiences and examples of so many people given, and I feel better. Great book. I would love to meet him one of these days. I would urge you to recommend this book to anybody who is facing any type of challenge in his/her life. THANKS!!
Incredibly Inspiring! May 16, 2002 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
A book to read over and over. When I am feeling like my self esteem is gone or I am going through a difficult time, I pick up this book and read a chapter or two and get re-charged again. It makes you re-examine all the dreams you ever had and didn't act upon because you thought you weren't talented enough or someone else had discouraged you. After reading this book you will believe "I can really make this happen".

Crawford brings a refreshing new "bounce" to positive thinking, taking it a step further (higher?) by remodeling it as "resilient" thinking. Excellent. Inspiring. A keeper!
