Product Description
Summary This book represents a unique study which reviews employment conditions in Asia and the Pacific in the context of globalization and increasing pressure towards flexibilization. It places a strong focus on the diverging experiences of individual workers in their employment conditions such as employment status, wages/incomes, working time, work organizations and health and safety. Along with thematic studies concerning the roles of workers' voice and labour regulation in determining employment conditions, this book includes nine country studies which have been undertaken based on a common research framework for a more rigorous comparison in the region Key Features A systematic review of employment conditions in the countries which are carefully selected in the region National-level analysis based on a common research framework A highly analytical and timely analysis of workers' voice and labour regulation with respect to employment conditions Micro analysis to reveal more realistic picture about individual workers at the workplace More in-depth analysis on the on-going debates than previously available on globalization and flexibilization The Editors Dr. Sangheon Lee is a Senior Research Officer at the Conditions of Work and Employment Programme of the International Labour Office. He has widely published on employment conditions including Working Time around the World (with D. McCann and J. Messenger, forthcoming, Routledge). Dr. Francois Eyraud is the Executive Director of ILO Turin Training Center. He has published on a wide range of labour issues including wage policies. His latest publications include The Fundamentals of Minimum Wages Fixing (with C. Saget, 2005, ILO) and Evolving World of Work in the Enlarged EU: Progress and vulnerability (eds with D. Vaughan-Whitehead, forthcoming, ILO).
