Ben Hogan's premise in this 1957 classic is driven home in bold letters: "THE AVERAGE GOLFER IS ENTIRELY CAPABLE OF BUILDING A REPEATING SWING AND BREAKING 80." Religions are founded on less, and Hogan's detailed analyses and illustrated demonstrations of grip, stance, posture, and the two basic components of the swing make up a sacred book. Though its very simplicity seems dated, this is the tome of technique that should serve as the foundation of every golf library.

Product Description
The building blocks of winning golf -- from one of the masters of the game.

Ben Hogan, one of the greatest golfers in the history of the sport, believed that any golfer with average coordination can learn to break 80 -- if one applies oneself patiently and intelligently. With the techniques revealed in this classic book, you can learn how to make your game work from tee to green, step-by-step and stroke by stroke.

In each chapter, a different tested fundamental is explained and demonstrated with clear illustrations -- as though Hogan were giving you a personal lesson with the same skill and precision that made him a legend. Whether you're a novice player or an experienced pro, Ben Hogan's Five Lessons is a must-have reference for anyone who knows that fundamentals are where champions begin.

5 out of 5 stars The greatest book ever, by far, on the golf swing.   May 8, 2008
Hogan's book has been continuously in print for over fifty years. Most other golf swing books, in contrast, disappear from print after just a few short years. Hogan's book is exceptionally clear and detailed about all the swing fundamentals. Consequently one can always figure out, when needs must, what's going wrong with one's swing and how to correct it.
Hogan's book is also unique in demonstrating how each swing fundamental links with the others. Other golf swing books, in contrast, tend to be be compilations of swing tips. So, where other books provide swing 'band-aids', Hogan's provides illumination and helps develop real understanding.
Hogan's book has been called, rightly in my opinion, 'the bible of the golf swing'. All modern golf swing theorists, as is clear from their writings, just repackage or add footnotes to Hogan.
Go to the source, to the benefit of both swing and understanding, read Hogan's timeless classic.

4 out of 5 stars Not perfect but a should have   May 3, 2008
If you think your going to find any life/game altering info reading this book you won't. Personally I think it's overrated, golf is full of tiny inconsistencies that are not covered in this book. I think Jack's golf my way, a couple Arnold books & Bobby Jones on Golf are better reads. Break 100 Now: From Hacker to Golfer in Just 90 Days is also very good. Spend the $45 now on a pro to look over your swing. Once you KNOW what your swing is supposed to look like then these books may help.

5 out of 5 stars Makes golf simple!   February 20, 2008
This book is amazing. It breaks the full golf swing into several easy to understand fundamentals. After reading Hogan's view of the full swing I feel like I understand the golf swing for the first time. This book will make anyone better. I am currently practicing the things he suggests. I can tell you that after a week I have already seen an improvment in my ball striking and trajectory. I look forward to working on my swing and eventually breaking 80 regularly, which Hogan thought anyone could do if they understood the fundamentals of the golf swing. This book is a must own for anyone who wants to play better golf!

5 out of 5 stars The perfect one.   February 8, 2008
I think it's the best swing manual. It's very detailed and very tecnical but the illustration of mr. Ravielli are very very clear and help the writer (a legend of golf) to explain in a very clear way.

Everyone who want to taste the "spirit of the game" has to read this book!

2 out of 5 stars Its time has passed   January 18, 2008

This book is one of the classic golf instructional books. There are numerous books out today that do a much better job of teaching the golf swing.

If you want to buy this book because it is a classic, then by all means buy it. If you are new to golf and looking for your first book to help you learn the golf swing, look elsewhere.
