Book Description Using short, inspirational phrases that crystallize the concepts of motivation and determination, many coaches-known and unknown, from high school to the pros-have mastered the fine art of summing up a key point in a single sentence or phrase. Sports coaches, perhaps more than any other profession in America, are the best at delivering these short, pithy quotes. The Quotable Coach is the first book to gather more than a thousand of these inspirational wonders. It is filled with words to stoke your competitive fires, touch your heart, raise your level of motivation, or even make you laugh. As a sports columnist for The Washington Times, author, Thom Loverro deals daily with coaches faced with the challenge of trying to move their players to greater glory, or having to explain to a horde of reporters why their team failed to meet expectations.

It is what it says it is May 19, 2008 There are quote books for golf and law and just about every special subject you can come up with. (I've edited a couple myself.) This is the quote book of sports coaches. Lots of short powerful lines from "History's Greatest Coaches" Mostly arranged as you'd expect by subject. But with a few pages for each really great coaches (like John Wooden, Vince Lombardi, Bear Bryant, Tom Landry etc) with his quotations all together, along with some neat biographical info for these coaches. Too bad that there is no source information for any of the quotes -- no year, no citing sources, nothing. Also, while I griping, it's all American team sports -- no international or womens coaching insights.
But overall it's a great read covering worthwhile subject matter. Who can't learn something from all these folks that spent their lives teaching others about winning and losing, desire and discipline. I laughed, and I learned. That's worth five stars.

This book is filled with really great quotes that will empower you to succeed. There are many quotes from this book that are real classics. Here are two of my favorites:"Don't measure yourself by what you have accomplished, but by what you should have accomplished with your ability." --John Wooden "It's what you learn after you know it all that counts." --John Wooden If you love sports and like to use motivational quotes then this book is for you. Highly recommended. Zev Saftlas, Author of Motivation That Works: How to Get Motivated and Stay Motivated
