Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Essential Guide to Attacking the Spread Offense   April 13, 2008
Coach Rice has put together an essential reference guide to attacking the spread offense. I have to strongly disagree here with the reviewer who claimed Rice only treats one kind of semi-spread offense -- that's simply not true. He devotes the last two chapters of the book to defending the most extreme version of the spread offense, the empty spread, from both odd- and even-front defenses, for example.

Coach Rice breaks his material down by fronts, coverages, and blitz schemes, and he walks you through each one so that you can find a useful set of tools for combating the spread, whether you run a 3-Stack, 4-3 Over or Under, or even the 46 Bear.

If you face spread offenses, you need this book. Highly recommended.

3 out of 5 stars Spread but more like the Purdue Spread Offense   December 8, 2005

This book has some interesting points to make. The title is a bit deceptive for those who are trying to defend offenses modeled after Florida, Utah, Boise St., Oklahoma etc... This has more application if you are defending a multiple team that isn't a real spread team.

This book contains a myriad of strategies for defending the spread offense, whether you run an even or odd front, zone or man coverages. Included are various pressure and coverage concepts (man, zone, and combination). A special section is devoted to defending empty formations.
