Great Illustrations. March 26, 2003 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a book geared to the player. This will teach the average adult player about the game and expose them to some of the subtleties of the game. The truely great thing about this book is the phenomenal illustrations. I believe each one is a charcoal drawing and they really illustrate what proper positioning should be. I used it to help my own game, such as it was, and it helped me with my coaching.
If you're at all serious about volleyball you need this book February 18, 2003 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Excellent drawings, crystal clear explanations. If you want a definitive reference for a variety of offensive and defensive schemes, and drawings that break down all the basic skills in detail, this is the book to buy.
don't waste your time and money January 8, 2003 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
I agree with the last reviewer, this book is way out of date and not worth spending the time reading. And I didn't really like the writing style, either, it felt stilted and it was hard to read--didn't flow, if you know what I mean. If you want to really develop your skills, go for something by someone with real credentials who actually knows what they're talking about.
out of date November 28, 2000 4 out of 15 found this review helpful
this book is mostly out of date. There are a lot of good drills, but I would not recommend this book to anyone starting out in coaching. There are a lot of better books (and web pages) out there on each aspect of the sport.
A great primer for coaches and player alike. November 10, 2000 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
When I first began thinking about coaching high school ball, Jeff Lucas's book was one of many I devoured. Although I'd played the game for years, I wanted to gain a wider perspective, and Jeff's book was very helpful. The illustrations are excellent, and every skill involved in the game of volleyball is examined and explained in detail. I recommend this book for anyone looking to improve their skills, either as a player or a coach.
