Product Description
Matthew Sobol was a legendary computer game designer--the architect behind half a dozen popular online games. His premature death from brain cancer depressed both gamers and his company's stock price. But Sobol's fans weren't the only ones to note his passing. He left behind something that was scanning Internet obituaries, too--something that put in motion a whole series of programs upon his death. Programs that moved money. Programs that recruited people. Programs that killed.

Confronted with a killer from beyond the grave, Detective Peter Sebeck comes face-to-face with the full implications of our increasingly complex and interconnected world--one where the dead can read headlines, steal identities, and carry out far-reaching plans without fear of retribution. Sebeck must find a way to stop Sobol's web of programs--his Daemon--before it achieves its ultimate purpose. And to do so, he must uncover what that purpose is . . .

5 out of 5 stars Sci-Fi Reality   July 8, 2008
This book not only was exciting to read, but with every turn of the page is got more freighting. It got me thinking, wow this can really happen. And because of that I couldn't put the book down. Chapter after chapter of exciting and wonderfully created action sequence. A must read for anyone.

5 out of 5 stars the PERFECT tech/suspense novel   July 7, 2008
i heard about 'daemon' while reading wired magazine's blog, and from how they described it, i immediately picked it up. and i haven't put it down since. this book is everything i hoped it would be and more.

it's a completely fascinating and believable story of a young video game tycoon who designs his most elaborate game to activate upon his death. and all written in a realistic technology vernacular that makes it irresistible. i'm not usually a big fiction reader, but 'daemon' made me want to get up early and stay up late just to turn a few more pages.

if you're into twisty stories with little puzzles around every corner, and especially if you're bent towards technology, GET THIS BOOK.

5 out of 5 stars Buy it! Read it! Share it!   July 4, 2008
'Daemon' captivates and informs. Zeraus (Suarez) writes well, very well. I started Daemon and couldn't stop. Hell, I couldn't put it down. I carried it everywhere in hopes of catching an isolated moment or two to read more.
I purchased a couple of the titles in the bibliography that Zeraus used researching his book. They read well though they don't scintillate like 'Daemon'.
Stop what you are doing. Get 'Daemon'. Read it. Share it. Continue the conversation Zeraus started. BTW, I have read the sequal to Daemon hits the streets in November, December 2008. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and my eyes on the horizon.
Though not as exciting or breathtaking as Daemon, but still very good is Orson Scott Card's novel 'Empire'. Card starts the conversation in the political/military arena. Here too, I urge you to get the book, read it, and share it. Keep the conversation alive.
Both authors have touched on problems threatening our country. They both issue wake up calls each in his own way.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Read!!!   June 28, 2008
Daemon - a novel, by Leinad Zeraus is the best book I have read in a long time.

If you're someone who likes Techno-Thrillers I can't recommend this book highly enough. The tech in the book is believable and very well researched (Zeraus' IT background stands him in very good stead here), the characters are well drawn, the pacing excellent, the twists frequent enough to make you want to keep turning the pages, the tone consistent and the plotting meticulous. This is one of those rare books you actually have to force yourself to put down, just so you don't finish it too quickly.

Be warned though, the ending may come as a shock to some, and a let down to others. But I for one completely went with it. And in fact, when I was about a hundred pages from the end of the book, I was hoping Zeraus would finish it exactly as he did.

Why? Because the ending sets up a sequel. And if that's anywhere near as good as Daemon, it can't get published quickly enough.

Cheers!

5 out of 5 stars Anyone in I.T. or into technology, this is a must read!   June 23, 2008

Coming from an IT background, I find that most books that try to use technology have no clue what they are talking about. Considering that the author comes from the IT industry, his technology application were very thought-provoking. I also do not read many books but I am traveling more with my job so I've been looking into reading on the plane. I started this book on my flight out and finished it on the way back! It is an excellent read with very few stops in action and interesting topics.
