4 out of 5 stars Not just for footballers!   July 24, 2002

I did not buy this book because I am a footballer, Ive never ever played soccer and probably never will. However I love the game and everything behind "the win". What makes a team win? This book talks about the mental training and attitudes, how we can mentally condition ourselves for a win.
Especially I like the section where they talk about goal setting, this book goes far beyond basic goal setting books or self help books. They really go in depth!
I highly reccomend this book for anybody that plays soccer, works in management, business or plainly is intrested in self help!
Buy and buy it NOW!!!

4 out of 5 stars Great book for psychology of soccer   May 7, 2002

If you are looking for a book with lots of soccer drills and tactical explanations this book has none.

If you are looking for a book to help you get your team out of a rut or a player with a problem than this is a book that you need in your library.

Follow the coach of the English National team as he talks about what he did to have Lazio (not a favorite) win the Italian League.

The book is written with Dr. Willi Railo, a reknown sports psychologist. They write the book as if they are speaking to each other in a conversation and you are basically sitting there. So, it is like you are listening to two people talking about dealing with teams and players in regards to sports psychology.

I once heard a club coach who read this book say that it was an incredible book but how could he use it. In fact, he could in terms of dealing with individual players and teams. Granted we don't have some of the same scenario's to deal with but you can apply many of the applications given.

This book is for the coach who is working with high school and older players, especially female. This is a book where each time you have read it (going on my third time) you will pick up different things and think of a player on your team like that. Or situations with your team that sound familiar.

Enjoy the book!
